Hi All

I suggested a friend should change from the basic PAYG tariff on Orange to the Dolphin one as he texts a lot. Some how we screwed up and basically it was a whole month until he started getting his bonus texts & internet (the date the following month after he rang and changed to Dolphin).

Now some one else wants to do this too but I don't want them to end up having the same problem. What order should things be done in? Top up and then ring and change to Dolphin? Does it need to be topped up and enabled the same day or something?

Or is it truly a con by Orange that you can't take advantage of it for a month? ;)

Yep, all the free texts/data get added a month after topping up. (Data is capped to pathetic 100mb per month btw :p)

GiffGaff is miles better if they've got a good O2 signal.
 
I know there's better. This person is only interested in texts though and it's the whole every one is on Orange so I don't want to move thing. I just need to understand this Orange animal thing and not get in to a debate please :)

That's an utter joke then if you have to wait a whole month?! I tried going in store to ask but understaffed as usual.
 
Please, no more 'use giff gaff!'. I know. I've sent many people that way.

I just want to confirm this Orange madness please as I find hard to believe!

If your friend currently receives any kind of monthly reward as part of their Pay As You Go package, they will have an analysis date that they need to top up by each month. If they change to the Dolphin package, the Dolphin benefits will take effect from the next analysis date, assuming they have topped up by at least £10.00.

If your friend does not have any kind of monthly reward, they can change to the Dolphin package at any time. They will then receive the Dolphin benefits after they next top up by at least £10.00. This would normally be received within 72 hours of the top up being made.

Thanks for that. They are currently not on an 'Animal' package, just the basic/standard one. So if they topped up by £10 today and then changed it to an Animal tonight/tomorrow, what would happen? I ask as I think they were going to top up today!

So what should happen from what I have been told (is this correct Darren?):

If going from basic to an animal you should change and then top up. You will get your free texts etc straight away (a small delay possible). You should not have to wait for a month until the anniversary date.

- As to why friend 1 had to wait a month and was told by CS 'well that's the way it works', we don't know. He changed from basic to Dolphin. Topped up a week or 2 later, and got nothing. He got his free texts once the anniversary date (the date he changed it from basic to dolphin a month before hand) occurred later.

I think the other friend has now topped up today but has not changed from basic to an animal yet. It sounds like she is best to let the credit run down before changing to dolphin and *then* topping up again?

I just don't want this 2nd friend to experience the same as the 1st friend...

That's right. If Friend 2 is currently on a basic package with no monthly analysis date, they can request to change to the Dolphin plan at any time. They will then receive their Dolphin benefits within 72 hours of topping up by at least £10.00. If they have already topped up by £10.00 today, and then change to Dolphin, this £10.00 will not count towards the amount required to get the Dolphin benefits.

As for Friend 1, from the information you've provided I can't be sure why that happened. It sounds like he may have already been on a package with some kind of monthly reward, as that would explain why he did not receive the Dolphin benefit until his next analysis date.

In order for your friend to be sure what will happen, and when, I'd advise them to call our Customer Service Helpdesk to change to the Dolphin package. The representative they speak to can then confirm when any benefits from this package will take effect.

I've just been given some information which might help to explain the experience of your Friend 1. If they were on an old basic package, but had a Magic Number set up, this would already have a monthly analysis date as they need to top up by £10.00 each month to get the discounted call rate. For this reason, they would not receive the Dolphin benefits straight away and would have to wait until the next analysis date.

This might be something for your second friend to keep in mind when changing their package.
