Right, this could go on a bit so I'll try to keep it short.

Been with Orange 6, going on 7 years now and they've always been good to me, but I lost a lot of respect for them today.

When I embarked on my most recent contract 7 months ago it was agreed that I'd have 200 mins and 500 texts for £30 a month, over a 12 month contract. This worked out pretty well for me, and I've yet to go over these stated limits, although I get close every month so I never spend more than £30.

Bill drops on the mat this morning, and upon opening they're asking me for £80. So I look through the itemised charges and they've charged me for each and every text message I've sent in the last month (450ish). Looking through the breakdown section of the bill, it mentions nothing of the 500 texts I'm supposed to have which it has on the previous 6 bills.

So I phone Orange and explain this to them and the girl goes off to speak to someone else and comes back saying that the 500 text bit of the tariff was a 6 month offer. This is total nonsense and was not explained to me when I accepted the terms and conditions. So as a gesture of goodwill they say they'll give me £30 back on my next bill. I explain that they've mislead me and they should be giving me the full amount, and the 500 texts back, which they're refusing to do.

Apparently I should have known the 500 texts were for a limited period, and even though I explained that I would only know this if they had bothered to tell me, they're having none of it.

Where do I stand here? My contract now includes no free messages, and I have an £80 bill to pay. From the tone the guy I ended up speaking to took, I'm being unreasonable by knocking back their goodwill offer of £30.

Why would any sane person knowingly agree to spend £30 a month on a contract which after 6 months was good for just 200 mins and nothing else?

Send them £30 and not a penny more.
Threaten to take legal action and if they don't back off i'd say you've got a guaranteed win if you have the original terms and conditions to hand.

Or alternatively, try and resolve the issue without late payment marks and hassle, and by looking at it objectively...

Big Chris, what contract were you on before the upgrade, was it the same? If so what may well have happened is 18 months ago, you took out 200 mins with 500 sms for 18 months (which was the web offer at that point), and when you upgraded, there was no talkplan change requested, which would have meant the bundle was not extended. If that's the case, your talkplan is the 200 mins, technically the 500 sms is an additional bundle that's now expired.

With regards to getting the issue resolved, the main thing I would suggest is talking to Orange again, explaining the situation and following the escalation procedure (ie ask to speak to a manager) if you're not happy with the result. It's going to get you much further than the previous posters suggestion, if indeed you are in the situation I've outlined above.

If he was not informed that his texts were for only half the contract as he suggested, he's in the right.
You can't let big companies push you around.

Keep going at them in whatever way until you get it resolved.

If the texts were a hangover from his previous contract, and no changes to the details were specified, he's got exactly what he requested...

Promotions are not automatically renewed just because you get a new handset.

I'd prefer not to risk and I doubt you not paying your bill isn't the first time orange have dealt with this scenario

Think dolph has the right attitude see if you can sort it out peacefully

I can't honestly remember what my old contract was, but I'm pretty sure it was a 12 month affair on the same terms as this, 200 mins and 500 texts, which I just asked to be continued for another 12 months.

I don't recall any mention of 18 months to be honest, but I can't be sure and I don't have the old bills anymore.

I'm going to pay the bills as they've asked as I don't want it to get ugly, but I'm certainly going to call them back and raise a discrepancy as I believe I'm in the right here, it was not explained at any point that I would lose the 500 texts 6 months into the contract or I'd never have accepted it.

Think you do right to be honest big chris ;)

Just got off the phone to Orange, it's not resolved completely to my liking but I think it's as good as I'll get.

They've given me back the 500 texts per month, and stuck with their offer of £30 goodwill, so I lose £20 but it's not the end of the world in the grand scheme of things.

The guy did say that £30 a month for 200 mins and 500 texts wasn't the best deal by a long shot, and advised that I'm eligible to upgrade my phone and contract as of the 27th of next month. He said I could get closer to 500 mins and unlimited texts for around the same money, which sounds good.

Glad to hear a nice happy ending with no black marks on your credit record :)

I had exactly the same issue, but I hadn't noticed for 2 years (Yeah, I know LOL - check your bills!!!!). Same tarif too.

Anyway, it took me that long to get through to anyone, the poor guy was a geordie in training and you could hear his manager helping him. I just agreed that it was a 12 month off and when I upgraded after the first year I should have noticed etc.

I've changed to a new Animal deal with them and ger unlimited texts and 500 mins for about the same, and a new M700 for my loyalty, as I was ready to swich provider. I would never have swiched really though, as 90% of friends and family are on Orange and it would be pointless switching.

Yeah they mentioned something about these animal deals, which basically involve about 4 times as many calls and texts than I have now for the same money! The black N73 comes out soon on Orange so gonna wait a month and see what happens...

It's on their website now actually, but I fancied the inbuilt GPS on the M700, plus Windows Mobile 5. Wanted a PDA type phone for ages, and now I've got one for free :D

Yeah it's not actually available til next month though according to the upgrade people. Then again, I've come to learn with Orange that depending on who you speak to, it might be available now, been available for months, or not available til next year.

Omg.........I'm on this plan

My phone bills have been £50-£70 a month and I have just been paying them.

So basically, every text I send I have to pay for? :(

If you got scammed with this taking away part of the deal half way through the contract thing like me then yeah, you're paying for every message you send.

Check your bills if they're itemised.
