Orange Unlock code

Hello,

I'm after some advice if possible.

Last may I purchased an Orange PayG phone, a Sony Ericsson K800i. I've now moved to Canada and want to use this phone with another SIM.

Orange advised that for £20 pounds they could provide me with the unlocking code. However after four weeks they have now changed their minds and advised that Sony will not provide them with an unlocking code because the phone isn't an Orange phone. The phone has Orange all over it and was purchased from an Orange shop, I can’t see how it cannot be an orange phone.

My biggest problem is that I had to credit my phone with £20 for them to request the unlock key. Since they cannot provide me with the key I've asked for a refund in which they are going to "try" and process. I doubt I’ll receive a credit personally.

What are my rights here? I have two main issues. Who can provide me with an unlocking code and do I have a right to a refund as I've only credited my phone with £20 on the premise this pays for the unlock code.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Jon

There are quite a few sites online that claim to unlock phones for < £15, if you can find one with good reviews (I don't specifically know of any bad ones, i.e. scams) they should be able to do it for you.

Hey,

I've tried a couple of unlock sites. Unfortunately this phone came with the latest firmware that cannot be cracked. :(.

Orange have now refunded the £20 pounds which is nice. I'm going to pop the phone for sale online and see what I get for it. Time for a new phone. :D.

Tried ebay? there are a few people on there who do a postal unlock service if you can't get it done locally, they will usually ask for the firmware version and some other code (they tell you how to find it) and will tell you before you send it wether they can do it or not :)

I will give the bay a further go, I'm not in the UK now which is going to be a pain. I may just flog the phone and buy one here.

Bah.
