I've gone from well maintained bangers, to a 5 (now 7) year old A4, and now I've gone and ordered a brand new A3 e-tron.

Because it's a new model I'm not going to get my hands on it until March at the earliest.

Will update with pics etc when I get it.

Has anyone else got one or order or had a drive out in one? I was really impressed (obviously enough to buy one!).

I'm struggling with which extras are worth it, it's pretty well spec'd to start with.

how much did you pay? A quick google suggests 35k list price?

From the review I just read it sounds like a lovely motor however im not sure Id want to pay such a premium for a hybrid version, was this something you set out looking for due to your intended use?

It's eligible for the government £5k grant for EVs, Audi are taking the mick a bit, because it's sold with that as a factor, so they've essentially upped the price by £5k. There's only 1200 coming to the UK, and they're expected to all sell before they actually ship, so no wiggle room below £30k on the price.

The electric only combined with charging at my work means that I will have a free commute, which is a very nice feature. I was just considering plug in hybrids as an option, but was really sold on this one.

Interesting choice, it's nice to see mainstream hybrids starting to provide some reasonable power rather than the pathetic amount of go produced by a Prius or Lexus ct

A lot of money compared to the conventional cars, but interesting nonetheless

Apart from the £x/mth finance I presume.

Insidentally saw my first i3 on the road the other day

It ends up about the same as the S3, which it's similarly spec'd to

Yeah, I meant just fuel costs. Finance/insurance don't change from my current, so fuel is the real variable.

Its not really comparable to the s3 though, it's more in line with a 1.8tfsi which will be available cheaper spec for spec. Base car is only £25k from memory, pre discount

Tech like this is never cheap until it's used throughout the range, so not unexpected

Sounds very interesting. Love the way this tech is going. Wafting around town in silence will be blissful.
It's really impressive getting up to 50 before the petrol kicks in (seamlessly). I'm sure in a couple of years it will be in more desirable cars with a better range etc, but I really like it, especially that it can run electric + petrol.

Ah, I thought the S3 was 200hp the same as this. I don't feel it's a bum deal, it has more even weight distribution (fuel tank in the boot, batteries under the back seat) and the linear acceleration from the electric engine, it was definitely a nicer drive than that 1.8tfsi

I don't think it is either, at least not with the £5k grant, it's just an accepted fact of buying something like this imo. I'd like to drive one, only recent hybrid I have driven is the small Lexus and it was woeful. Not surprising given its roots, but disappointing all the same

It's nothing like the spec of the S3? The S3 is considerably more powerful for a start.
Already corrected, I thought the S3 was 200 the same as this, not 300

That's cos the battery is massive and hence you need to pay for that privilege! You summed it up in your post without realising it thanks to Clarkson hybridism.

I thought the etron was 150hp? Hybrids also tend to weigh more, 200kg or there abouts typically.

204bhp and 258lb ft torque which is which is the total output - include the electric motor (99bhp and 243lb ft of torque) and the petrol engine (150bhp and 185lb ft of torque).

You seemed suprised that they offered more power not me.

What are you on about? I said it was good manufacturers were starting to produce hybrids with a reasonable amount of grunt, as until recently you were very limited in mainstream cars if you didnt want a serious performance hit. Nothing more nothing less
