I know, I know. I got confused in the midst of all my reviews and spec comparisons etc. I'm an idiot.

I ordered: DELL 27" P2715Q

I have a GTX 1080 MSI Gaming X 8GB.

With the P2715Q only going up to 60Hz im getting tearing. The 4k resolutions look nice but the frame rates off 100+ kind of defeat the object.

What monitor is going to give me the most bang for my buck?

TN panel vs IPS?

4k or higher refresh rate?

Is there an option where I invest a little more and get all of the above?

Thanks for you advice.

That is the monitor I have. Great monitor for image quality. Definitely no freesync.

Go into nvidia control panel, set it to run on fastsync for the game you are playing. Let me know if that works, worked me me on my 1070.

Fastsync bro. Not freesync. Freesync is an AMD tech, not nvidia.

I found using fastsync work very well. Seems to default to adaptive v-sync when frames are low.

1440p and 144 hz I would say is the sweet point, balancing resolution and refresh rate. Then it's IPS vs TN. IPS typically has a marginally high response time, but better colours, viewing angles and is more expensive.

Also ultra wide to consider, i have an X34 running at 100 Hz which I prefer to the above but obviously give up frames compared to the 27 inch 1440p 144 hz monitors.

Is there a big difference in 4K versus 1440p?

Im at the stage where i want to buy a monitor thats going to be future proof (as much as is reasonably possible) thats why im thinking 4k and 144hz would be good but what are the options there and is it worth it?

Thanks.

I was wondering in general what's better for gaming. 4K textures or higher refresh rates?
It depends on your taste to be completely honest. If you prefer better graphics and image quality, then 4K. Trouble is there are no 4K 144Hz options available just yet. The only once announced sounds like it will be more than £1000 and it does not even have a release date yet as far as I know.

If you play twitch gaming online like Battlefield or Overwatch I would say get a 144Hz G-Sync monitor, as you already have 1080. If not enjoy what you have and sell it in one or two years and get 4K 144Hz then.

For most people gaming i think 1440p, 144 hz will be a better experience than 4k. If you're doing lots of photo editing for example it may be a more difficult choice. I would recommend ultra wide.
