Has anyone here ordered a guitar online and what have your experiences been?

I'm slightly concerned that stores might sell the kit that people wouldn't buy in the shop.

I'm aware of distance selling regulations, but the carriage costs to return a guitar 'cause of a B string buzzing like a sitar or a poor setup, maybe too much hassle IMO.

usually when you buy a guitar online, it'll need a setup, all the changes in conditions can do that to guitars. I've ordered a bass off 'bay and that needed a setup. Plays beautifully now

Not sure about this, BUT I think under the distant selling act. If you return something that you dont want within the 7 days I believe you can also ask for the postage back as well. I may be wrong though.

Perhaps someone in the know would clarify that.?

Bought a number of bits and pieces from www.imuso.co.uk and never been anything less than happy with it. Just got a new guitar from them this weekend, and all is well.
I don't know I would trust something like ebay, but from a reputable online dealer, I would certainly be happy buying more....if only my budget would allow more!

That www.imuso.co.uk thanks for that, what a good website...Some nice stuff there and not silly prices.

Funny you should mention them as they are one of the companies I was considering ordering from:

This

Also, I've noticed they're near enough to me to make it worthwhile actually visiting the shop.

It needs to be a seriously good price IMO... You can get so much variation in quality from one guitar to the next, whether it's from variable qc at the budget end, up to natural variance with handbuilds at the top. Always a wee bit of a gamble... Even with quality mass-produced guitars like an American Standard or proper Gibson there can be a fair old variation, my American Standard Tele was just dead, it sat in its case while I played my old Squier.

But then again, there are some fantastic prices to be had if you're careful. Guitars aren't massively expensive to post, for that matter, under £20- annoying, but better than being saddled with a piece of rubbish costing several hundred quid.

Ordered mine 6 months ago from Regents (guitars.co.uk) excellent service, and all guitrs now come with their premium setup service included so what you get is an excellently set up guitar... highly reccomended.

Sorry to Bump this but what I wrote about, any one got any knowledge on ?

Totally agree! Nothing beats going into the shop and trying an instrument out first as the quality varies so much from product to product - even if it's the same model, especially when you're talking about musical instruments.

I have bought three online, two have been absolutely fine but one wasn't:

ESP DV8R, had a bloody great crack in it when I unwrapped it  Sent it back but they couldn't get a replacement, totally gutted cause it played and felt lovely :( Ended up going for a RR5 which ust wasn't half as nice..

Awesome guitar though, pic stood next to my Jackson:

Can I ask why didn't you get a refund and purchase the DV8R elsewhere if they couldn't get a replacement?

This was last year (April IIRC) and the DV8R was only just released, there were no more in the country and nowhere cold even hope to get one in within 4-6 weeks :( I didn't want to wait that long for a replacement so chose a different model, much to my peril :o
