Anyone done it? Not sure how they come, frozen or fresh?

I struggle to find any decent cuts of steak in the supermarkets around here (Asda/Tesco)

Cooking for my gf's family in a week or so and want to get some fine fillet steak but no chance of finding anything.

Has anyone used anyone online and were they happy with the steaks?

Yeah man
Donald Russell are pretty good.

They come flash frozen usually.

Ordered a couple of fillets for valentines some years ago, they were fantastic.

Just make sure you leave them out for a while to both thaw out and reach room temp before cooking (very important for fillet steak!!!!)

they come fresh in polystyrene boxes with big ice packs to keep the temperature cold. I order online, despite having a good local butcher. Due to wanting abnormal cuts, that most butchers have to order in, i wish local butchers would cut the carcass down themselves. There's still a few about who can cut the cuts you want but these are even rearer than decent butchers.

fillet for steak, blugghh waste of decent money. Fillet is tender but doesn't pack a punch with flavour. Save your money and get sirloin, rump or which ever cut you want and save fillet for incredibly rare/raw dishes.

Excellent, looks like I shall be ordering. Know when I should order it so that they are ready to cook on the 22nd May?

Edit: just seen on their site that it's usually around 3 days. So Friday at a guess.

Most sites I've used you can order when ever and select delivery date. Rember to insure you are home or instruct to leave box in garage or somewhere.

I got some sirloins steaks from Morrisons and they were superb. Easily as good as my local butchers whose steaks are equally good:)

I find it hard to believe you can't find a half decent butcher in Surrey. I would imagine that a fresh cut properly hung porterhouse or ribeye is going to be far better than anything that comes packaged through the post.

all those things apply (or should I say can) apply to stuff through the post. Donald Russell is probably the best butcher in the uk.
