GTX 260 or HD 4870?

Im stuck as to what GPU to go for. Im planning on buying Batman: Arkham Asylum, so getting it free with a GPU which seems to match the 4870 most of the time and sometimes outperform it for jus £8 more seems like a bargain.

So if I buy the Nvidia option, I feel like I can compromise on the mobo and get a 785 chipset instead of 790 since I dont need the Crossfire option. Whereas if I buy the 4870 it jus feels like it make sense to buy a mobo that can take another 4870 when they drop to an even lower price a year down the line or something if I feel I need it.

Anyway, here are the two rigs, which would you recommend? And please no fanboy wars, I dont care whether I go with Nvidia or ATI, I jus wanna know how the two rigs compare.

If you could afford it, I would try and find an extra £20 and buy a 4890 - link. (it's a great value card - and would sit well in either rig.)

Im only gonna be gaming at 1920x1080, and I really cant push the price up any higher. Rest of the money is going towards a BenQ E2200HD, kb&m, and some DVI & HDMI cables. It all comes to about £750 and I cant push it any higher than that. Seems wrong to spend that much on a PC when I wont be gaming THAT much.

Fair enough, and sensible if you're on a budget. (although you could drop it into the first rig and the diffference would be less.)

Then TBH there's not much between them - the second gives you a bit more flexabilty with crossfire and if you think that is something that you'll require in the future then that would be the sensible route.

Yeh...Im jus thinkin if I would wanna go crossfire or buy DX11 in a couple of years when the 260/4870 doesnt cut it anymore. Hmm...

And dropping the 4890 in the first rig would mean Id have to buy Batman:AA instead...which would add another £30 to the price lol

Another thing I didnt consider though is that if I wanted to go crossfire, Id probably need something more than a 600W PSU wouldnt I? Especially since I need two more PCIE power cables than the current PSU would offer me...

And if I jus buy the 260, I could buy a modular 500W for cheaper than that 600W probably...

If you were going to be upgrading in 2 years - then the reality is that you would choose the DX11 route, over another 4870, as games would 'then' be coming in to their own with DX11 - there's always delay with new cards and the 2 year mark would probably see software developers utilising the new cards properly.

Yeh, I think it makes sense to go with GTX 260 for me. I mean surely in 2 years time, a DX11 card will be available that will compete with a 4870 CF set up for a half decent price.
