Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone could recommend some software that I can use to plot routes on OS maps, using 1:25000 or 1:50000.
I have looked at both anquet and Memory Maps but was wondering if there was anything free.
Be nice if the software would allow me to upload to handheld device like iphone too.

Or is the best software what I have already mentioned and to get the good stuff I have to part with some cash ;)

Any advice would be great :)

Good stuff is Mapinfo/ESRI Arcview with routesmart or network analyst but thats serious cash for what you want to do. If you have the OS maps stored as raster data in a postgis/other database you could use QGIS if you want to ''manually'' plot the route.

Javascript api from esri is pritty good if you are skilled in javascript but you can either use OS's API for developers and use esri's routing geoprocessing task (might be usa only though) if you are after automatic route calculations?

I use Viewranger on my GS3. The app is free but you have to buy OS tiles, you can buy a credit pack then just purchase the tiles for the areas you want. There is a website where you can plot and edit routes, upload gpx files etc and it syncs them with your device. In my opinion, its the best piece of software of its kind!
