Organising mp3s..

How do you guys organise your music/media physically on the drive. I've always tended to a bit of an adhoc basis and my music is not really categorised too well. My folder structure, when applicable, is Genre/Artist. But I don't know if that works so well because many of my tunes are just one artist - one tune, no album.

Any recommendations?
 
By Album. With the artist name in the title of the folder if you catch my drift.

Keeps multi-artist albums together properly. Then i have a folder for singles.

disc folder

'various' cds get ripped track by track to the relevant artist folder.

Although for my DAP I'll use

\A\A Artists\01 - Title.xxx

For the PC it's the first one, however used a filter to use \A but database is built :)

So if you have a album by Abba in c:\music\70's Disco\Abba\Disco it'll show in \A\Abba\Disco in the database.
 
My system is a bit different. I have folders based on length of track; Less than 1 minute, 1-3 minutes, 3-6 minutes, 6-10 minutes, 10 minutes+. There's between 300 and 7,000 tracks in each folder, it can get pretty frustrating if you want to listen to a whole album but who has time for that anyway? If I have a spare 3 and a half minutes I can find the perfect song in a couple of seconds. :)
 
music folder > artist - (album no.) - album
for example:

Kelis - (1) - Kaleidoscope
Kelis - (2) - Wanderland
Kelis - (3) - Tasty 2003
Kelis - (4) - Kelis Was Here - 2006



albums are then listed on chronological order. i dont know why but thats a big deal to me lol

For example:

G:\My Documents\My Music\Contemporary\Muse\05 - Cave.mp3
 
iPod Backup > Artist list > Album list > Songs from selected album.

e.g.

iPod Backup > Impaled Nazarene > Pro Patria Finlandia > Goat Sodomy.mp3
 
Music\Artist\(year) album name\Artist - 0leadingtracknumber - trackname.mp3

For me it's My Music > Artist > Album (E.g 112 > Pleasure & Pain & Hot & Wet) . If I have one album by one artist I just leave it as it is (E.g Gorillaz - Demon Days)

Then a few thousand single songs in My Music. Works for me :)
 
i have it in artists then albums

but i also have a hugeeee folder full of any amounts of singles that im meaning too sort but never get round too

all a big mess really , end up using "search" allot
 
My folder structure is a mixture of album artist and genre. Only use sub-folders for artists if I have more than one album from them.

Example:-

\Linkin Park\
\Hybrid Theory\
\Reanimation\
\Nate James - Set The Tone\
\Mash Ups\ (Genre sorted)
\Mastermix Mashed Up 8\
\Singles\

All makes sense to me and everything can be got to quickly, although one thing I have done is fully tag all my music correctly. I'm fairly anal about this but it does allow me to sort/organise everything any way i wish within media players.
 
I just let iTunes do it really, although i do make sure each song has a capital letter for each word apart from "of" or "ill" just because it doesn't "look" right. :)
