Artist/Album, and a separate folder for compilations

All makes sense to me and everything can be got to quickly, although one thing I have done is fully tag all my music correctly. I'm fairly anal about this but it does allow me to sort/organise everything any way i wish within media players.

That is the real problem for me right now. I can physically organise the music fairly easily but many tags are missing data. That is going to take a lot of effort to sort out.

So many people organise by genre, never ever done that.
I tend towards the a huge folder of artists and within each seperate albums if necessary.
I also have one mixed folder where I throw anything I'm liking atm or old classics, that way I can just play this whole folder on shuffle when I'm not sure what i fancy or am playing SA-MP.

i dont bother with genres. i tried it once, but i had so many albums that i couldnt put in one genre that i just gave up and went back to everything in one folder lol

Well worth doing but as you said it does take a lot of effort and time to begin with.

Just in the process of sorting out all my mp3s, adding album art, getting the id3 tags correct and all that wonderful stuff

Im organising them like so:

Genre \ Artist - Album

With each mp3 as follows:

Artist - Album - Track - Title
