Electronic Arts is auto-adding EA titles that were purchased from Steam to a user’s EA Origin account. According to what we have been able to uncover, a number of Origin account holders have seen Dead Space 2 and Mass Effect showing up in Origin as games that they own

i can personally confirm this - started up origin today to find medal of honor was on it - and i bought that in the steam sale.

Only if you use the same email address for both? Otherwise how would they know who you were?

Clav

no , i use different email addresses for both so its snooping steam files

McGray

yes , its asking me to redownload MoH if i want to play in origin

for those who dont care - it means that origin is snopping everything on your computer , likely , surfing habits , torrent downloads , music and could even be emails.

Am I correct in remembering that when you launch MOH for example, you need to sign into your E.A account to activate your product key?

Not the spyware debate again...It's just EA games being tied to your account, all the games that are on my Origin account i have to sign in, or i've redeemed.

I have different emails for either system for security so I guess my games won't be on there. Having said that now bf3 has come and gone and mass effect 3 will shortly be with us, I will soon no longer have need for origin and it will be making a hasty retreat from my computer anyway!

Tinfoil hat time!

No, just no. It doesn't. It's not scanning through every file on your machine one by one to see if youve got EA games installed. It'll just go to the registry and see if the the keys installed along with the game are present. Not exactly private information.

Or more likely.. You've logged in with an EA account the first time you login while playing the game, so it's registered you that copy of the game on origin FoC.

Yep, my Origin game linked to the same game in Steam. I noticed it ages ago after I got Dead Space 2 from Steam. I logged into Origin to play BF3 and noticed DS2.

I thought for a moment EA had given me DS2 as a freebie but they hadnt. I checked the CD key in Origin and Steam and they matched.

I was going to enquire about it on here but thought you'd all think I was going mad lol!

Frenchtart

you have so little understanding its not even funny.

MBennet

it doesnt matter about emails - i use 2 different for origin and steam yet one is now with the other

orderoftheflame

yes just yes

go read other forums - its not just pulling information about games (thats just the start) - its also pulling surfing habits , what you`ve downloaded , etc

really sad to see privacy is of little concern here :(

We care about privacy. We just don't care about paranoid delusions or people not having the slightest bit of understanding of what they're talking about.

Btw, the quote button is awesome. It will save you a lot of time.

MoH appeared in my Origin about a week ago, not a game I wanted to play again..

btw, how to remove stuff from Origins anyway? I have a couple of Demos there I really want to deinstall and get off the list.

Not sure if you can, Ive still got the BF3 Beta in my games list. I never did install it and now the logo is greyed out so it just sits there next to the full game BF3 logo. Bit silly really, considering its a Beta thats now closed.
