Origin Broadband Recommendation

My bets going on a salesman :p

Thanks for the pleasant greeting to the forum!

I signed up a while ago and have been a long time customer of OCuk.

This is the first thread I've posted on because it's something I'm interested in and already know a little about.

Maybe I should stay away before everyone turns up with their pitchforks :)

May consider one of these companies when my VM contract is up.

I wish I could do the same, I only have Virgin Fibre as well as BT, Sky and other LLU services. Wish I could get BT Infinity at most, but still awaiting on it.

My Origin connection should be going live today. Bottom package, 24Mb down / 2Mb up. Will let you know how it shapes up. Might shift onto a higher package later if my line will handle it.

So far, getting a pretty solid 2.7MB/sec download speed on their 24Mbps package. Will see how that goes over the next few weeks, and think about going up to the 40Mbps package from month 2.

Morning All,

I have recently gone with a company called Origin Broadband for my internet and wanted to pass on the recommendation to you all.

I live in South Yorkshire which has recently had a government grant to roll out fibre optic broadband across the whole of the county. This was carried out by a company called Thales/South Yorkshire Digital Region. Currently, the majority of Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster have been enabled for this service, with only handfull of ISP's currently selling it.

I went with Origin after a recommendation from a friend and they turned out to be fantastic. Im paying £33pcm for their 40meg package with line rental (£22 for the internet and £11 for line rental) and it is truelly unlimited and uncapped. My speed varies slightly between 36 - 40meg. Upload is capped to 2meg, however they do offer a 10meg upload option.

This essentially use's the same infrastructure as the BT infinity service, however Thales have their own equipment in the cabinets.

For me its a great alternative to using BT as im lead to believe the do cap their service even though they advertise otherwise.

P.S I do not work for Origin, im just a seriously chuffed customer :p

Hi im going to be joining origin in the next few weeks and i was googleing for some recommendations and come across this site nice to see you've had such a good service with then its put some reassurance in my mind im making a good decision. Im going for the 40/10

Just wanted to point out though the digital region network (Thales) dont use same infrastructure as the BT infinity just the same type of technology, BT infinity uses open-reach FTTC witch talktalk, sky, AAISP etc also use. The digital region network uses its own core fibre network, Backhul and its own dslams in cabinets and then connects the the open-reach copper network to get to your house, This comes in handy for areas in south Yorkshire that dont have openreach FTTC but will most likaly have DR like me i can get DR now but OR FTTC is still months away.

Thanks again for your positive review.
