Just curious if origin is actually as evil as people are carrying on about?

And Does it really let ea have access to all the files on your hard drive like I read earlier today?

All I've heard is bad stuff about it.

Don't like it? Don't install it. Im pretty sure there was a big debate about it a while go in here....

As you see everybody else have got it installed. No problems ....

If you compare it to Steam, yes, it's horrendous. That 'EA reading all your hard drive data' is BS, but has potential.
But, to be honest, it seems to work and do what i want it to to play games installed using it (apart from one hiccup with BC2 that was quickly resolved).
In conclusion, it seems to work for me therefore not evil :)

It's not bad, most people are just on the "Origin sucks TROLOLO" bandwagon. It has it's flaws though and yeah it's no where near as good as Steam, but it's usable and hasn't caused me any grief so far. I just hope this doesn't happen with every other publisher and I end up with 20 different programs on my computer.

No its not.

But it has the potential to be, given the EULA you have to sign.

Your call.

Doesnt BF3 NEED to have it installed to use it?

I don't have a problem with if. My bfbc2 and bf3 downloaded extremely fast. I open origin, I launch the game, simples :)

I really do think some people get their nickers in a twist over nothing.

Program isn't necessarily that bad, it is EA support which is the truly horrendous thing that i imagine is in the back of peoples minds when they talk about it.

Personally, i have had to contact them about 4-5 times with Origin specific issues since it has been around, compared to none with Steam for much longer. EA's customer service is appalling.

Got to love them for shovelling it with the "biggest" PC release of the year. It could be much worse than it is and people will still swallow it just to get their BF3 fix.

Everything about origin is a bad idea, they are just forcing you to open their shop before you load up battlefield, the shop only stocks EA games and forces you to sign away your privacy just to install the program, the program looks like it isn't that invasive but i still don't want to give EA the right to scan my hard drive and sell what they find whenever they like, yes i know steam has something similar but at least it asks you before you do the scan and you can decline it

This. It's "Evilness" is just blown out of proportion gibberish that comes from the "lolEA" bandwagon.

It doesn't do anything untoward that Steam or many other common applications aren't already.

While i dont like the idea of Origin, and having to launch BF3 from it,Id much prefer it to Games for Windows live,So its not all that bad imo.

lol

"It is not as **** as the next **** thing for PC gaming so all good" :)

Yes, it is better than the previous "E.A Downloader" and to be fair, Origin does "work", I just do not like it or the implications this may have for the future.

E.A need to get their head out of their ***.

Origin is doing my head in at the moment, anyone know an answer to this?

Was playing fine yesterday then came home and had the 'ready to install' button again which did nothing.

Copied everything into another folder and uninstalled Origin, re-installed and copied the downloaded files across.

Now Origin is downloading an 11GB 'update'. Anyone know away around this?

It's currently downloading BF3 for the third time.

What choice is there and what can be done about it? A huge corporation like EA cares not a jot for the 'privacy' of its customers, though I must question the degree to which ones privacy is actually compromised by Origin when compared to everything else we do in our electronic lives (e.g. Google).

To me it's just a faff. I liked the days of double clicking BFxx.exe and just going straight to the game.
