Origin - why all the hate?

I'm just about to start getting back into a bit of PC gaming, mostly for some C&C, which is only available on Origin (digitally at least), which seems to get a lot of negative comments across the Internet.

Just wondering why, and is it so bad as to need to avoid it?

The list usually amounts to:

Evil EA
EA games that require it.
It's not Steam.
**** EA.

Personally apart from it being a little barebones feature wise compared to Steam I feel there's little wrong with it.

the main gripe I have is having a separate launcher/distribution platform for each publishers set of games. The beauty of steam WAS that everything was in one convenient place, now we've got Steam, Origin, Uplay.

I think a lot of the hate comes down to people jumping on the "EA is evil" bandwagon. Same with Ubi.

I don't exactly like some of the choices they've made, regarding games but I've never had a problem with Uplay or Origin.

Sodding thing forgets my user/pass every time I run it, because everytime I do run it, it wants to update. It's almost as bad as Uplay in that respect. Also, it's EA.

I have no issues with it any more, i haven't had any problems with it for a while. Must be out of beta now :p

Though, it still has nothing on steam. and obviously annoys me that steam gave you the ability to have all of your games in one place. Now i have Steam, Origin and UPlay (which is awful by the way).

Oirigin for me has been fine, I just like all my games in one place.

I know you can add "Non Steam Titles" too Steam but I want to option to add it with everything.

As for uPlay, I detest it.

EA are evil, EA have killed off several previously great studios, EA price things at a very high price on there, Origin was watching you when it come out, and of course Steam is the only monopoly people love even though they repeatedly fail to give the people the game they really want!

Personally I find Origin ok - I prefer the presentation over Steam and tbh Steam's prices have sucked and their sales have for quite some time, Steam's customer support I find to be pretty average although I've never had to use Origins so I can't comment on their support. I don't even use Origin though because by and large I really don't like EA games. Although I am rapidly going off steam as the seem to just want to clutter my interface with loads of low-budget indie stuff that looks like it should be on a NES and a load of pre-alpha give me lots of money no so I can cut and run types of games.

EA are still the devil then :D

Nothing too bad then, thanks for all the feedback!

Didn't like how long it took for a game purchase to appear on account.

Wasn't an EA title which may have been the reason, but I expect a digital purchase to appear straight away instead of the next day.

Because it's not needed.... Battlefield Bad Company 2 was easy enough to just load a browser in game, didn't need origin and didn't need battlelog. It's just another useless step

I agree with Battlelog, it's really not necessary, but Origin is basically what Steam is, so you do need Origin in order to play EA games or any games you purchase through Origin (which is the same for games purchased through Steam), and if i remember correctly, didn't most of us purchase BC2 through Steam? Therefore requiring us to use Steam? I didn't see anyone complain back then regarding that.

I've said this before, that i get better download rates on Origin than Steam, that's why i like it, plus Steam seems to hamper my other games if i leave it running.
