Origin - why all the hate?

its mainly cause a lot hate EA. in reality steam does exactly same and i laugh at people who think its any different :p

It basically comes to a love hate relationship, I regard Battlelog and Origin as Marmite. You either love it or hate it, I'm somewhere in between :p

I have no issues with it, the same as I have no issues with Steam and the same with Uplay.

Indeed. Sure it would be nice if all the games were on a single platform, but I'm not going to refuse to play one just because it's on Uplay or Origin. That's just silly.

It's jumping on the bandwagon, just like the EA is evil and it's worst company tag. Really? A company that messes up some games which on the grand scheme of things is nothing is evil?

Origin is fine, it does what it needs to without loads of bloatware. Uplay is also basic and from my experience does what it needs to. It also goes for Blizzard who have their own as well.

Steam seems to get more crap tacked on to it each update. Also apart from Steam Sales of old games, Steam are no more competitive on price and their customer service is by far the worst i've ever used.

Can you blame big publishers creating their own instead of giving Steam 30% of the pie? I know i'd be doing the same if i was in charge.

End of the day the only time i run them is when i want to play a game, otherwise they sit there doing nothing.

Why anyone wants Steam to have a monopoly on the digital market is beyond me.

Sodding thing forgets my user/pass every time I run it, because everytime I do run it, it wants to update. It's almost as bad as Uplay in that respect. Also, it's EA.

This. Played BF4 regularly at the weekends when it first came out and I quickly got into the habit of firing up Origin 30 minutes before I wanted to play BF4...

I would prefer to have everything on one platform ie. Steam.

It is annoying having to run more than one platform at once to access everything.

because I buy retail copies. I have the disk and don't want to have to have steam, uplay, origin etc... to play a disc game. if I had bought via steam, origin etc... I wouldn't mind.

Yep, same thing for me but with BF3 alpha to beta. Just launched Origin and lo and behold, another client update. 7 minutes later I was finally in after guessing my account details. Off to uninstall the thing now.

I agree with Battlelog, it's really not necessary, but Origin is basically what Steam is, so you do need Origin in order to play EA games or any games you purchase through Origin (which is the same for games purchased through Steam), and if i remember correctly, didn't most of us purchase BC2 through Steam? Therefore requiring us to use Steam? I didn't see anyone complain back then regarding that.

I've said this before, that i get better download rates on Origin than Steam, that's why i like it, plus Steam seems to hamper my other games if i leave it running.

I play BF3 myself and agree, whole heartedly, with you guys on the battlelog issue. Why in the hell is it needed to open a web launcher to find a server. Totally useless.

As for origin, it has its quirks and issues just like steam, I have problems with them both, especially when I have to use my tech support knowledge to get a new DL working which should work straight away, booth steam and origin are guilty for it and they really need to sort that out, especially when the issue is on their end and you have to argue with customer support, just for them to aknowledge its their fault.

Origin is ok. Free (good) games regularly, sales, lacks significant bugs, decent dl. speed/response time. It doesn't offer much in terms of community but I don't care about that anyway.

The hate is mostly irrational/exaggerated complaints, just like the type Windows, Apple, Google etc. get.

Origin is great, fast downloads free trials and I've had nothing but good CS.

Oh and like cHk4 stated 'Mexico store FTW !' haters !! :D

The hate can be legit. I found if Origin failed to log in once then it throws you back to the logon screen where you must put both user and pass in again rather than retry with the already saved credentials. Why? Why does it need to be so backwards?

Don't think I hate origin. I think it is more to do with the company that owns it. That together with enjoying all my games collection in one place and that place being steam.

I only have a small issue with steam and that is that they should provide better after sales support. Though I hardly ever need it so in the end that is not an issue for me.

I wish steam did offer a money back option like origin for example. Even if it was for like a 30-60 minute window. They likely would have a lot more of my cash if they did.

Origin itself has come a long way from the days I posted hatred of it on here - aside from the update aspect of it which as mentioned can sometimes be a bit badly timed.

BF4 was my first return to EA games after avoiding them on principle for about 7 years and LOL I won't be buying EA again, Origin might have changed but EA at its core certainly haven't.

Steam ain't perfect - needs far better customer service support and I've had multiple login issues with it lately (due to congestion I think) but I really dislike having to deal with more than 1, maybe 2 max different distribution platforms.
