Original C&C Question

From what I remember:
- Heavy tanks don't make an appearance until Red Alert, where the Soviets get them. In C&C, NOD don't get anything 'heavier' than a light tank, instead making up for it with Stealth and Flame tanks if you build the tech centre.
- GDI on the other hand, get Medium and Mammoth tanks.

- GDI get the two guard tower variants. One with machine guns, the other (creatively named Advanced Guard Tower) with heat seeking missiles and machine guns. When I first saw it I felt like it was Dune 2 all over again ;)
- To balance, NOD get the turret (remember them? :p) and the Obelisk.

Re: multiplayer only units such as the SSM/chem warrior/etc:
They are in the manual (or at least, they're on the tech tree) but there should be an asterisk or a small print somewhere that says they're only available in multiplayer mode. That said, some campaign missions might feature a selection of these units.

Did NOD get a SAM turret in the original C&C to counter the Orca?

Had Kane get vaporised by Ion cannon, and one he gets buried by rubble. Considering the ion cannon ending he shouldn't have been in Tiberium Sun

He survived.

Also, the first three games (Tib Dawn, Red Alert and Tib sun) have all been released for free by EA. The page with the download links doesn't exist anymore, but this forum thread has the download links + patches and so on:

http://www.commandandconquer.com/forums/showthread.php?67-Download-Red-Alert-and-Tiberian-Sun

Post 9 has just the download links.

Yes they do, while GDI's advanced guard tower can shoot down Hind helicopters.

Thought so! I wish I could play the originals on my Mac. Don't have access to Windows or a Windows based PC and I'm not sure that they made any of the first three games for OSX. Otherwise I'd grab them through a torrent, as they've been released as Freeware I'm sure it's all legal. :)

Yup they did get SAM sites - I remember there being whole missions where you had just the commando and had to go about destroying a bunch of SAM sites in order to get backup :)

Classic game - such great memories!

And some weapons did extra damage when the SAM was open! Ion cannon took 3-4 hits to kill it when its closed, but its a 1 hit kill when it was open!

:D

I still can't pick a winner from the C&C series, I loved them all even RA3. Anyone remember the Mirage Tank from RA2?

one of my favourite games of all time, fantastic, played through it last year when I got the first decade pack :)

Get C&C first decade and install it.

Install latest official patch.

Then install latest unofficial patch.

This makes the original work on Win 7 :)
Does anyone know what the max Resolution C&C 1 And RA can run at

Am guessing it going be somewhere around this
C&C 1 = 640x480 to 800x600
RA = 800x600 to 1024x768

I love these games the cut scenes with real actors made them even better! Had C&C and all the expansions and Red Alert. Tiberian Sun was epic aswell but RA2 was freaking awesome.

Kirov reporting, Korean fighters. etc etc.

Yuris revenge was ace aswell.

All down hill after that,

Can't answer the OP's post, aside from comment on how superb Tiberian Dawn was when it first came out. I was in my uni flat back then, installing the game off a magazine cover CD. Had no idea wtf C&C was at the time... I was hooked onto my first ever RTS in minutes.

I remember later on replaying the final GDI campaign so I could see that fit news reader with the jugs :o :D Ah those were the days.

Edit. Got the TD box around here somewhere.

From what I now recall, the GDI tank was a single barrel as the manual states, however the sprite for that tank looked like it had two barrels. The NOD version was also single barrel. The only double barrel in the game was obviously the GDI Mammoth. As for the rocket launcher - I seem to recall it firing two rockets one after another and that unit was part of main game for sure.

Engineers could cap construction yards, then you could build ever unit from both sides. My guess is that it's a screen capture from a mulitplayer game during testing.

Also, when you get asked where to drop the bomb.. choose Paris!

I really need to see if I can get this to run on Win 7, maybe Dosbox would work.

Try searching for Nyerguds on google, he has a version that has been ok'd by Westwood has all the missions from PC, DC and PS1 including the PATSUX mission from PS1 and also runs at 1024*768 res
