**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Any tips for the mission where you're being chased by the solar flares?

I'm not getting any time to actually pump out units so i've got nothing to take the Protoss on with, and I end up getting squashed.

It's the only mission left on my map.

What difficulty are you on?

I've done this on normal, and on hard. On normal I found it fairly straightforward. On hard it was a complete nightmare! At their main base there are a mass of anti-air units (~10), and a similar number of archons (who will kill you quickly and reveal your cloak). Then, when you finally get to the artifact, a bunch more of each pop out to polish you off. Nightmare. I bet it's fun on brutal...

Anyway... To start, build 5+ SCVs, and the gas extractors. Then make sure you build a second starport asap (with tech lab), and start pumping out banshees. When you have 6 or 7 (on normal... more on hard), send them in to the nearest enemy base, cloaked. You should be about depleting the first field when you move, assuming you built enough SCVs. Then move your base in sharpish, with SCVs, and start mining again. You'll need to build more refinaries. Also, you'll need a few anti-air units - wraiths are best since they can cloak, and you shouldn't be short of vespene. On normal, 4 should be enough.

Attack the next enemy base, to the eat of you, and send the base in afterwards. Go in with the banshees, and keep the wraiths just behind. Send them in only for the enemy air units, then retreat. Again, you'll need to start mining ASAP, and churning out more banshees and wraiths.

...then you attack the main base. On normal, ~20 craft total should be enough, and will be very easy to amass. On hard, the only way I could do it was to lift-off all my buildings and send them in first as a heavily armoured distraction :D Then send my units in afterwards while at least some of the enemy is preoccupied.

Anyway... try this. On normal, doing it this way with the buildings, you really shouldn't need very many forces at all.

The thing I found on hard is that you can clear the first area and most of the first base with just the banshees. The tougher part is building up enough of a ground force to be able to take the final 2 bases since they have a lot of anti-air.

I ended up with marines and medics backed up by siege tanks. Providing you build a second barracks and keep pushing you should reach the Artifact in plenty of time.

Doesn't happen to me, strangely enough. We have pretty much identical specs too. Except I have a HD4850 (not too far off a 5770) and my Q6600 is at 3GHz. Same res and everything.
What Catalysts are you using - I'm on 10.3

I'll post the replays from Indie vs me getting beat if they haven't been overwritten yet. Shame blizzard only keep your last 10 replays, in the beta they kept every single one of your replays. Tis fun watching other people's replays though.

Only 10 replays saved now. Whats the point in lowering it? (I have 25 in my replays folder but can only view 10 in bnet  )

Made it to platinum 2v2 last night, with random team mate for every game!

US forums seem to be in a uproar about having random teams facing arranged teams in these matches, couldn't agree more, wasn't like this in WC3, shouldn't be like it in SC2!

Agreed, that does not sound fair at all. I am sure Blizzard will take note, hopefully it is quickly resolved.

I've now got a good understanding of Terran and have been playing them pretty well. Though I have a concern about playing with them. Most of my mates that I play with play Terran, due to players understanding them better through the campaign. I want abit more deversity in our 2v2,3v3 matches and want to try Zerg. Though they seem a lot harder to play. Where are some good places to good to learn Zerg?

Thanks - I'll bear that in mind when I try this beast on brutal!

I probably should have mixed up the tactics a bit more, but I was stuck on rails a bit with the tactics that worked so well on normal.

 That's crazy

No wonder the net is doing better than physical stores - A quick google search and you have about ten other places that are cheaper
