**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Dont ever wall in against terran, thats just asking to be harassed to death by marauders (or reapers) :P. It's much better to build tight to your nexus which makes it easier to manage your base if you do get pressured early game.

plus early game a couple of tanks, marines and a viking at the low ground of the entrance can kill your gateways+pylons+your army without breaking a sweat. cant even count how many protoss players i've beat this way.

Kinda, I think lots of things are taken into account. Such as your APM, your wins and losses, length of games, opponents played etc.

from my experience the most important is winning against favored players. when you are doing well the system will put you against a player from a higher league. win that a couple of times and you get promoted.

As an FPS fan I've never played an RTS game in my life, so I was in game and I thought sod It I'll give It a go.

Well I played most of yesterday doing the single player and had a few games with the AI and lost all of them:o but I love this game It's so addictive I'm normally in bed at 11pm but I was still playing at 1am :D

Don't think I'll bother with the online stuff just yet thought think I'll get raped lol.

Pretty much yep. I've only just learned how to reliably stop this strategy. It's pretty ridiculous. Tanks need to have overkill brought back. Thankfully though, there's a ton of terran players in platinum that have got there on the back of either MMM or tank ball of doom, that completely fall to pieces when their first push fails.

Disaster, turns out OcUK didn't actually have my motherboard in stock. Good thing I sent a web note this morning. They usually ship things so quickly. I ***Eventually*** managed to find one elsewhere. Going to have to wait longer now :(. I had only had a few days with it too and had just gotten to the final zerg missions.

Has to be said, the story is pretty great at the moment. Looks like there will be a new race at some point. What ever happened to the zerg/protoss hybrids anyway?

Battle.net leagues and promotions are very strange, wish I knew the fomula they use to decide when to promote and demote.

Placements were 3W2L, didn't expect broodlords off 1 base contained zerg, was too busy taking over the map - silly me. 4 gate protoss rush, scouted early saw one gate and forge thought he was going defensive and I teched :(

Anyway got placed in silver, it's a real hell hole, lots of rushes and 1 base carrier type stuff, scouting information doesn't really tell you a great deal because people play pretty random, stayed up til 3am last night trying to get out, after literally my last game I got promoted to Gold, got put in a league with just 14 other people (lots more today though, must've been newly formed)

Just played 3 games this morning, lost 2 won 1 and am now in Platinum. It's all very confusing :)

The Xel'Naga created both Zerg and Protoss. hence why they have the hybrids, best of both worlds :)

Invasion of Char are awesome missions too, with some great cutscenes

Story is amazing, i can't wait for the next expansion!

Its working fine, the idea is you play people in your own league, if your doing well, you play against people in the league above. if you win those consistantly, you get promoted. If you just get promoted i think you play somebody in an above league straight away to determin if your in the right place. if you win, you play another one. Im sure theres a more complex structure too it but imo it works pretty well.

they get you as close to a 1:1 win/loss ratio as they can.

Asking a question like that was bound to get a spoiler reply captainrave :)

Hopefully indie, it's just after reading some threads on Teamliquid about players like Cauthonluck who was something like 42:5 and still hadn't been promoted and idra who had to lose 7 games on purpose to get promoted, it just seems a bit screwy still. Although those cases could be because the system may work slightly differently between Plat and Diamond.

the Xel'Naga is ooold news, like way back in SC:BW.

Yeah, trying not to get too spoilered, but I am nearly to the end anyway. Can't wait for the next expansions! Last missions I completed was the first protoss one - so very cool (although managed to miss ALL the achievments). Looking forward to playing through on hard.

Does the story have you playing as any of the other races? Im new to this starcraft lark and dont have a clue what the zerg/protoss units and buildings are.

I usually use the SP story to get used to units and buildings, but if they have split this into 3 games, with the other 2 being the other 2, its going to take me a seriously long time in skirmish mode to try out and learn the other races.

Theres a few protoss missions in the story but you won't really get access to their full tech tree.
