**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

I remember getting 2 gates up quickly and charging two zealots out. Killed his two probes and destroyed the plyon. At this point he was massively behind (I essentially ignored his presence until I was able to deal with it) so he just quit.

Also has a terran block my ramp with a barracks early game. Stalkers = gg

This is either fails miserably or you win the game in 3 minutes. Utterly boring IMO.

Of course, it's like any all-in strategy. And you're right it is boring, but if you're going to do it, the build I posted is how you would do it :)

What is the quickest way to cannon rush? I have won a few by simply Building a pylon and forge next to the enemy command center. While this is happening, I push out a few probes. By the time the force is complete, I start on the cannons. A marine ususally pops out before the cannon is finished, but not in time to save them.

Tbh cannon rushing Terran is a bit pointless. If they are smart they pack up their scvs and float away losing a couple supply depots and will end up ahead on econ.

Cannon rushing zerg is nigh impossible with spine crawlers rocking cannons for range, and the inability to get in close with creep.

The best cannon rush targets are protoss. Basically pylon forge at your home base, if they don't have a gateway and/or have it less than 1/2 way warped in, start warping in two pylons next to their nexus and hopefully he goes mental and tries to kill it with his probes. As soon as a pylon starts getting low on health cancel it and warp in two more. He can't stop you getting a pylon up and from there it's academic normally.

The correct defensive response to this is 4 probes per pylon and 1 probe chasing his. and continuing to build probes/chrono your zealot.

If your 9 scout finds his base without anything in it except for a forge (or even without a forge) IMMEDIATELY put your own forge down as it takes just 2 defensive cannons to hold off a cannon rush (he can't warp in cannons within range of one of yours).

I saw this the other day which is really good :) http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=143214

The general rule of thumb though, a cannon rush is a crime of opportunity. If you see the conditions are right to do it, go for it. Occasionally I do it... :D

Definitely a good idea so you can nail your build order and what not. Took me around 5 practice games against AI to very roughly refine my 4 gate rush. Obviously you'll need to adjust it when you face humans (unpredictable buggers :D) but ideal to get some good foundations.

The mix of players in the Bronze leagues is really odd. I had a 7 match winning streak last night against people who were clearly newcomers to the game.

Then in the next two games I come up against some very clever tactics (both Zerg iirc)and APM counts that we're very high.

I lost a good chunk of the point gained from the wins by losing those two matches :(

Playing against the AI is good for practicing your early build and finding which units are strong/weak against others. I never find it useful for much else.

Agreed. The AI will keep making the same tactical decisions more or less.

AI games are great for getting your first 6 to 8 mins sorted but not much use after that. The variety of cheese/tactics you come across in MP, AI games will never prepare you for.

Also got to make sure you get used to the "Faster" speed too. Gave me a bit of a shock when I started playing MP.

I think some people purposely lose their placement matches so they get placed in the lower leagues.

That would make sense. I'm starting to get a lot better now and you'll sometimes come across a bronze player who is clearly leagues ahead in terms of skill and APM.

I still need to work on my info on scouting to figure out what strat they're going for. As I've only ever played Terran I don't know what the 'Toss and Zerg structures.

I'm certain they do. I was being steamrolled in my placement match and just as i was about to surrender, he did! Totally screwed me over as i'm now in the silver league when i should clearly be bronze, fortunately that baptism of fire has made me learn a lot in a short amount of time and have pulled back from 7 losses 2 wins to 7 wins 8 losses :)

Play a few games against AI where you just concentrate on building all the units and see what they do. This helped me a lot with counters.
