Speaking of PvZ............:D



Quick reminder that the FINAL of our OcUK Starcraft 2 Tournament is taking place tonight at 8 o'clock:

Indie (Zerg) vs RobHu (Protoss)

They met in the semi-finals of our Beta Tournament. Now, they're the last players standing and ready to play a Best Of 7 to decide the winner of our first release tournament.


Anyone who wants to observe is welcome. Just give me a shout online before 8 tonight (VoidPtr.167) and i'll make sure you're all in :)

Now prior to the patch I would say that I was up and down against Zerg but I just can't seem to handle or find a solution to mass roach attacks.

I've tried using marines/maurders, thors, tanks everything that I can think off including the maurder slow down perk(can;t remember the term!!) etc. Even buffing the marines with extra sheilds and stimp and I just get mauled by mass roach (lets not even mention mass muta!!!) Even tried hellion harsh etc but they get get smashed by roaches now

Any tips on handling mass roaches as terran would be great.

Have you tried banshees :p
 
Banshees are perfect against Roaches! Siege tanks is Siege mode also work wonders too (Even more so when on the high ground).

I played a 1 v 1 today - TvZ (me as Terran) - and was loosing badly to mass Roach. Luckily for me he didn't even attempt to attack my base; only getting killed when making a move on him. So I had all the time in the world to get Banshees out (10 in total with 2 more cooking) even had time to upgrade them slightly :D

Bit of post-tourney Q&A, a good chance to get feedback and refine the structure:

Would people prefer smaller tournaments, split between divisions? (say 2 tourneys, bronze-gold, plat-diamond) Certainly the tourneys will be shorter from hereon in. Thinking about a week maximum per tournament, then a break.
I quite liked the idea of one big group structure as it gave lower league players a good chance to play some competitive games with some of the best players on OcUK. Ideally these tournaments should represent something that every single entrant can take something good from, whether that be experience of playing against good players or just enjoying some good matches.

Double elimination could also make an appearance. For various reasons I decided to stick to a more simple strucuture in this instance.

Now that the first one is behind us, I can look at refining the structure. These are your tournaments, so I'd love to know what you want to do with them :)


Anyway, more tourneys to come. Will take a bit of a break and start anew, so look out for an entry thread. Will make sure it gets posted all over this thread as well. All to play for again, and hopefully a bit shorter as well :p

About bloody time, I won a game last night!

18 down, 7 wins.

I only seem to beat TvT or rarely now TvZ.

The only reason I won last night is because of macro, loads of defensive play with 2 bases, churned out marines like they were going out of fashion, few air units in support and the odd siege but nothing cleancut.

Not sure if I'm static or my opponents are getting tougher! :p

I think it should be a bit more strict about the game times, basically a time is agreed within a (small window) and you have say, 3 reschedule cards you can play in the tourney. It's hard for us to all get together at one time. But otherwise the tournament takes forever to complete. I actually donated some prizemoney to a tournament that died simply because the admins weren't strict in enforcing games to be played.

I would really enjoy a 2v2 tourney too!

I think division only tourns are a good idea. I think there's a pretty big gulf between bronze and above. Probably you would need 3 divisions bronze, silver gold, and plat diamond.

I think the diff between gold and diamond is pretty big, and the diff between bronze and gold is masssssive.

ZvZ is definitely my worst matchup. It's actually quite interesting, there are hardly and random players and only a few zerg players, and it seems like every game I get one of the two.

Started in silver, worked up to diamond, straight back down to gold =((

Yeah i said to Alex before we started, I'd be happy to take a couple of games off him, hes such an excellent player! Both the games i took though i think we're down to some good mutalisk harassment.

got some good feedback from Rob too, which is alwasy good and very sportsmanshippy! :) Thanks again rob for the excellent games!

Yeah, i agree...

I also think we could have an OcUK League which could be ongoing for a set period. Each person has to play each other 2-3 times, 1 point for a loss 3 for a win. Goes on for a month for example. people organise their own games in that time and post their results. If you don't organise your games you obviously don't get points... im sur ei could elaborate more but works annoying me today ^^
This can be done alongside any other tournaments etc.. i think it would be nice to have this esp for the newer players!

Again, i like the idea of a 2v2 tourny as well... Assign each participant to a number, and just pick out of a hat etc.. then just organise some sort of brackets. Maybe make it one-two evening BO3 double/single elimination?

Furthermore, in the area of 1v1's we could just do one night tournaments of BO3... limited signups etc.. that way its just done there and then! no dragging on for months! hehe
 
also... would anybody be able to find me some VoD's of ZvZ.. im really strugglign.. and not good considering who i have in the tournament tomorrow :/

cant look atm as im at work!
