**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Heh yeah thats what i was trying. 12 Banshees are enough to take out the Nydus Canals in one volley. Just hold shift and right click each one and then in your base and they'll do the whole lot and return. I lost 1 banshee through all the waves.

Makes it a walk in the park.

Just had a really good 40 minute PvT on Lost Temple. So much more fun when Terrans expand :D

Download Link

Worth a watch :) I wont spoil the result.

As always, any tips and comments are much appreciated. I am aware of one or two mismicros that caused me to lose a batch of HTs horribly :p

Sometimes I just love it when I come up against awfully slow turtles!

Was ZvT and all he did was periodically send out a puny force which he'd only add a few more units to after the previous one was obliterated in seconds. Never once scouted that I took over every other base, including his natural.

Killed off all workers so I could send a maxxed army of mutas/broodlords/ultras. When the time came, he only had 6-7 turrets, 2 bunkers, 3 tanks, and a bit of M/M... For the swarm! :D

Couldn't believe that he was in Gold, so I checked and saw that he had just been placed... and was 'favoured' too :p

Turtle terrans still have to pressure. They can't just sit back and let a zerg expand pressure free.

Probably the big difference from the lower leagues (and I'd include gold in this tbh) is that people don't really have agood concept of expanding.

As a zerg it's natural, you just HAVE to expand. But for lesser skilled protoss/terrans, they really struggle.

So a one base turtle is insanely easy to beat.

Yeah, exactly. No idea what was going through his mind. Oh well, they'll learn eventually.

Anyway, I wanna get outta Gold! Been hovering around 1st-3rd Gold for ages now...need more replay/vid studying it seems :o

Points score is pretty irrelevant. You'll get matchmade increasingly against plat/diamond players. And when you start winning a balance of those (40-50%) you'll get promoted =]

Check your opponent's league after your matches and see if you're winning against higher placed opponents.

since i updated my gfx drivers the game hasnt run properly, so annoying! however, think i may have fixed it, will be testing tonight! so looking forward to getting some more games in, i've been away for toooo long!!!

also.. entering the 2v2 tour! woop, good work Alex!

You're right, though being 1st sure feels better than 2nd etc. :p

As for higher league players, it's a mix; I'm pretty much beating every other Gold I face but not doing so well otherwise. Need to step my game up!

This guy really doesn't know what he is talking about. So its painful to watch.

This guy is so calm, if he could read me a book i could fall asleep, where is the enthusiasm.....

This guy doesn't seem to do any match commentaries and if im honest, i think he is a really bad caster in the link you provided. Husky/HD should take his spot in MLG.

Appreciate the links though.

Oh I forgot Diggity too. One of the best overall casters for Starcraft 1, and now he's getting back into SC2. His youtube is diggitysc I think.

Also I missed your last sentence there. You're absolutely crazy if you want Husky or HD to replace Day9 at MLG. Did you watch the MLG where they did cast? It was terrible. They were so awkward on camera and they were awful at filling time. Husky's commentary is funny though, I'll give him that. Without Day9 we wouldn't have anyone who can actually give some detailed analysis of what's going on in the game. Not to mention he is amazingly professional and can fill time better than anyone. So can DjWheat - one of the oldest professional e-sports personalities, that's why Wheat/Day9 are so good together.

If it was just HD and Husky we wouldn't be treated to things like the Day9 vs DjWheat showmatch during the downtime, which was probably the highlight of the whole event (MLG Dallas). It was hilarious, because both Day9 and DjWheat have such good on screen chemistry and are generally funny guys. I wouldn't be able to watch an MLG with just HD and Husky's awkward time filling. Sure they'd get better, but Day9 is so good MLG wouldn't be the same without him.

It's late so I might as well stay up and see if ret qualifies for the GSL3 since he's playing right now.

So far Jinro and Haypro have qualified. Incontrol, Kiwikaki and Artotis did not qualify. Idra and Huk playing later today.

gogogogo ret

incontrol plays SCII !? didn't know that! he's a nice bloke. met him playing WGT several times back in like season 4 or something

Tbh I prefered the hd/husky style casting until I got deeper unto the game. A lot of what day9 goes on about, and the style he does it in, is a bit more difficult to get on with.

That's why husky and hd for their faults are so valuable to the community.

Ret and Idra through to Ro64, Huk got rolled by a terran :(

Lack of protoss in the GSL makes me sad. Oh well, rooting for Genius and Iron as far protoss goes I guess.

Ret, Jinro, Idra, Sen, Haypro. Pretty good result for foreigners.

Yeah it sucks. Everyone goes on about Protoss being OP. And it is if you can get like 3 bases and > 5 colossi. But if you make _single_ mistake in getting there, you are dead.

With Blizzard likely to nerf the absolute **** out of templars (already too expensive) and colossi, they have better make the race more forgiving in the early/midgame (without letting us go back to the happy hunting days of the ubiquitous 4 gate).

I have been thinking about what if, they buffed the bejeezus out of the Phoenix and simply got rid of the now useless voidray (i'm thinking give them a slight buff to attack, build time, and reduce the energy cost of graviton beam). That would give protoss a viable early harass option, and with the ability to pump them out quickly, it would provide a _reliable_ (as opposed to fortunate) marauder / stim timing abuse.

Hmm, if unscouted, phoenixes can already put serious hurt on a zerg player in the early game. Would certainly affect that matchup if they got stronger.

It's true protoss is incredibly strong when on lots of bases and macroing well, but as you say, getting there is the problem. Honestly though, if a Protoss player can get 2 or more templar with psi storm ready to be cast before a terran player can react, then that's really the terran's fault. A good player using ghosts can ruin a templar-ing protoss player's day. I think that when it comes to TvP, HTs are perfectly balanced. Similarly, vikings work very well against colossi (or if the terran player really wants, they can just say **** it and build marauders for the entire game to win :p).

Speaking of multibase protoss, thought I'd test out one of these replay sites so i'm not always uploading to mediafire.

Here's two games I played on Metalopolis vs Zerg today, experimenting with a very simple response to an early hatch:
