**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

watch your replays back and find out at what point in the game they are the weakest, try and pinpoint that time and attack then. if you can pull it off. do your blue flame drops at the same time as attacking. keep them on their toes ;)

I have a pretty good TvP win rate and that's only because Protoss tend to cheese so much and most of these are easily countered.

If you see Collosus, don't move out until you have 11 vikings as they will one shot them.I don't have problems against mass Collosi but things get ugly when they have a mix of chargelots (I HATE them lol),Collosi,Archons and HT's.

been trying to work on a 1 rax, FE, then throw down 2 more rax's as terran today.

Worked ok - need to be better at my macro but if I hold off the initial push by protoss/terran, i'm usually quite well ahead in terms of economy by then. Not played against any Zerg today (9 games!)

I'm only bronze but trying hard!

In one game however I did get completely rolled by another terran who FE'd off 1 rax's and then threw down 7 more rax's and mullered my with upgraded marines x 50 or so.

Was a crazy amount of marines to have so early!!

Talking of protoss cheese, what's the right counter in TvP if they blatantly cannon rush you with a pylon right beside your mineral line? I find that unless you can get a full surround on it with 5+ SCVs (not always possible) it goes up and the cannon goes up right beside it. Sometimes they make 2 pylons one after the other so that 1 is almost certain to go up. Even if you take them both down you've lost about 2 mins of mining time? Plus the scv chasing the probe in your base can't take it down in time?

Luckly I don't face this very often in diamond, and it only works on certain maps, but it still beats me every time.

Lift and move down to your natural/another base? You loose time from mining, but he's wasted minerals on the pylon/cannon, so it should end up fairly even? I'd say don't move too early though or he'll just cancel the cannon.

No idea if this would work, just seems like it would to me, I play protoss (And don't cheese :p )

There are 2 ways to deal with this.First one is to try and kill the pylon/probe and the 2nd one is to put a bunker in range of the cannon with scv's repairing. The only map this is being used is Xel'Naga, with the pylon outside of your base.In that case, when you see the pylon, block your ramp so the probe can't get in.If it gets in,you have to surround it with scvs or build a bunker.I haven't seen that cheese in months though.

bunkers with a couple of scv's repairing from the opposite side to the cannon and get 2 maurders inside the bunker as they (i think) out range the cannons.

either that or just lift off and start elsewhere and they have wasted loads of eco on the cannons/pylons.

Also just make sure you watch the entrance to your base closely

The most obvious 'I'm cheesing' move you can spot is a probe just entering your base then immediately leaving once it knows you're there, without actually scouting any of your base. This almost always means they've seen you and are moving back to stick down a pylon and start on cannons. So keep an eye on the minimap for a flash of red/blue on the edge of your vision.

And because its always relevant:

Edit: I'm having a good evening of gaming so far! First opponent we get in about a minute before he times out and I get a win after the 60sec reconnection thing. Then I finally manage to hold off a marine/marauder rush, barely getting enough stalkers out to kill him fast enough, then just run into his base and kill all his SCVs, and then the next guy was afk to start missed the first 15 seconds, tried to play on but was too far behind :3

Thanks for the tips guys. The lifting off idea in particular appeals. It happened to me on metalopolis so it would be an easy lift onto the gold from my main which would obviously have the added benefit of even faster income!

And don't forget to call him a "cheese" too.

Man I got called a cheeser last night in a tvz for putting a bunker up in range of his FE. To me that's a natural response to seeing a greedy hatch first build on a small map (xel naga). Maybe my definition of cheese is just different to his - often I see it defined as "any strategy I lose to in the early game". Whereas I think of it more as a super strong tactic that if scouted is easily countered, and if not scouted often wins the game.

Building a bunker in a tvz is hardly the same as a cannon rush (IMHO).

so may de-rankers/portrait farmers last night, i swear about 60% of my 1v1 games last night ended within 2 seconds of entering it lol. not that im complaining and one guy blatently was doing it (1200 wins under his belt was plat but when i checked his profile later that evening had got knocked to silver) needless to say he was reported.

its such a pointless thing to do aswell...what a waste of time.

iv now decided that my pvp openings are stargates not robo, given that 99% of the time people either 4gate or go robo.

Lifting is not that good because they can follow your CC and build more cannons at the gold/wherever you expand.Another option is to make a rax with your scouting worker in your enemy's base, they will have nothing to defend with.

If they get cannons on the low ground then it obviously doesnt work but ignore the pylon, every cannon he puts down just get 3 SCVs to attack it and then shift right click them back to the mineral line (to continue mining). Your barracks should essentially be finished by the time the cannon rush starts so all you have to do is kill the probe with your first marine, kill the pylons are your leisure then wall him in his base with marines while you expand your little heart out.!

Well, having switched from Z to T I'm doing sooo much better. With Z I think I was winning maybe 20% of my games......with T I'm winning more like 75% and I feel like I'm improving with every game. I love Z but I guess they don't suite me - I was always struggling and never felt like I was getting better :( I'm sure I'll give them another try at some point, but right now I'm just enjoying the feeling of not banging my head against a wall :) Up to 7th in my bronze division \0/

You lose the best part of the game by not playing zerg, banelings :(.

That and the thought of one day getting the Kerrigan picture spurs me on to play Zerg :D

Ahhh, I had this happen 3 games running a couple of nights ago - I thought maybe something was up with the servers. Now I know ;)

Might be an old one, but certainly true in my bracket when scouting an enemy's base.
