**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Well I've finished my novice and placement matches, ended up in Bronze league.

However I was wondering if someone could give me a little advice.

I play Protoss and have come up against Zerg twice and lost twice simply because I was attacked by rather insane numbers.

How the hell do I counter them? The first time it was a Zergling rush with about 10 times the numers I had, the second it was roaches and the same thing happened, I simply didn't have enough units.

Mu curren build order is rather simple really, 9 Pylon/Scout, 11 Gateway, pylon, once I've got a few zealots out I build a Cyber Core and another Gateway, upgrade to warp gate and then start warping Zealots and stalkers, I usually follow that up with Immortals, somewhere along the line I throw up a Twilight Council for upgrades.

However in the above 2 Zerg fights I get mullered before my gateways are even transformed into warp gates. Should I be trying to go High Templars? I've only gone air so far to harass Terren's and protoss air doesn't seems that worth it.

Maybe I should just spam photon cannons...

Unless you're afraid of a rush, then scout after the gateway (gives you a few extra resources). I generally gate on 12, but it's up to you exactly when you build it.
On most maps, you'll have a small ramp which you can use to defend, so use the pylon and gateway to -almost- block off the top of the ramp. Then use zealots/sentries+stalkers to hold the top for the start of the game.
Be wary of teching too quickly. Be sure to get units out, because if you're teching and they're cranking out units then by the time you've got your first templar out they'll have 50 roaches ready to annihilate you.

Also, zerg have a habit of taking expansions quickly, so it's worth trying to harrass, force them to build units rather than expanding their economy. After all, Zerg needs lots of hatcheries and queens to crank out their massive force.

If you want to try and put on some super-early aggression, try gating on 10 and start chrono-ing out zealots, put some pressure on.

Don't spam cannons. Ultimately you're putting valuable resources into static defence which you can't use to put any pressure on your enemy, and which become pretty much useless in the late-game.

Does the friend list work? Mate added someone and it didn't find their ID, inviting to chat or sending a request via the 'real id' didn't work either.

Is he on another server? US or Asia one or something? You can't play with people on different servers unfortunately. Retarded I know.

Had an abosulte ******* of a match earlier today.

Basicaly the in was PvT, myself as Protoss, the guy playing Terren just did nothing. He set up dozens of missile launchers and spammed marines, then went on to create about a dozen battle cruisers and even more tanks.

In 20 minutes he didn't attack once. He just built up an absurd defense and an army that could have wiped me clean off the map due to me trying to attack him and failing.

I ended up just leaving the game after a while because he wasn't doing anything.

If anything that was more annoying than any cheese strat I've come up against, it's like he thought he was playing civilisation or something, it just seems utterly ridiculous that someone would play a game like SC2 and try and win matches just by waiting for your enemy to get bored.

Also I've discovered my weakness, apparently I wait far too long to attack.

Oh and yeah as above, same race matches are really dull, I usually just go void rays and hope they are spamming zealots.

Yes you have, you tried it against me many times. I remember a particularly taxing game where you took a corner island on lost temple built like 50 million turrets and an air force. I spent about 40 min trying to crack it with blink and voidrays whilst building up a carrier force, which decimated it in seconds. bit of an anti climax in the end

You see this sort of cheese a lot. They bunker in and mass 1 unit type. I had a few games like this last night, wasn't happy. One game the guy bunkered in and went mass vikings, So I went Hydras to counter, but I knew I'd also need roaches/lings for ground forces. He managed to just maintain a critical mass of vikings so that every time I tried to take a third base he would fly past, spot it and take it out before I could get the hatch to build, he was also sniping my overlords so I was supply locked a lot of the time. I couldn't make enough units to guard all 3 bases and I couldn't make enough units to attack his base without leaving my base exposed and ending up in a base trading situation. I know I made a bunch of mistakes in the game. (had I expanded for the third earlier it would have not been an issue) I could have teched more, and if I had built infestors I probably could have glooped the vikings in the air, and let my hydras get a free rain on them. I could have also built a dozen spine crawlers around each base to protect them from the landing vikings whilst I sent my force into his base.

In another game I played a Terran on lost temple who tried to contain me with bunkers and turrets. I had 2 bases so no problem, I just massed roaches and hydras broke the contain and took a third & 4th expansion, I also took out one of his expos.
I then teched up to ultras and started smashing his base. He put up a reasonable fight, but nothing that would stop my second utra attack. Stomped through his natural and main, (but I knew he had built a base on one of the islands. Spent about 30 min teching up to Broodlords, building corruptors and taking that expansion (the hardest part of the whole thing is I was 200/200 when I took out his main and natural, so I had to get him to kill a bunch of my units in order to make more.

About 10 min before the game ended he messaged me and said "I don't think I can win, but I'm going to make you work for it" ******. Once I took out his fleat of Battle cruisers (which never got out off the island) and his wall of turrets (which went down before the BCs) I managed to swamp his base. Although it would have been much easier if I did not have about 150 units I didn't need (I had a lot of hydras that I held back at my bases just incase he slipped through my contain, 6 ultras a load of roaches and lings and way more drones than I needed (I had more or less mined out the map)

As toss you probably should have made carriers to deal with the turrets and the BCs and taken every expo and made zealots with the spare cash. If he had no intention of leaving his base then you could have massed up and done a single fly by and raped his static defenses and take out most if not all the BCs and sent the zealots in to help speed up taking out the base.

Depending on what my opposition does i sometimes do this. Expand early then sent one massive attack force. You should have send cheap observers to find his battlecruisers, then sent stalkers and collosus to wipe out the missile launchers and marines.

If it was 30+ minutes into the game then your could have had max supply and got carriers to finish off his base whilst avoiding his lev3 cruisers.
