**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

bah i suck at this games.

Just played two placements as protos and lost both. I think im attacking too quick and the other players are just making one huge army to take me on in one swoop.

Any good strats for a newbie protos player? (and starcraft in general)
 
As a begginer protoss I'd say use sentry's forcefields, they are so effective, I beat larger armies thanks to those puppies splitting them up and blocking them.

I think we need to play one another :-) Me as Protoss you as Terran, and then switch. Who needs blizzard, we can sort this imba nonsense out, right here :) Kar.310. Add me!

I started playing as protoss today, in custom matches (not ladder) against begginers that wooped my a** :P did beat a plat zerg though (my goodness either players are terrible or they are terribly underpowered...everybody knows they are unverpowered though) He had so many roaches but forcefield and picked them one by one with smaller army xD

I am not ready to properly play as protoss but my initial reaction that it is much more fun, I don't have to turtle to survive when I play protoss >_> but then again that might be just he initial wrong reaction

Well the tournament will go on for longer than the 15th, so we might be able to get your games in on thursday or later. Kar's away for a similar time, so we'll have to shuffle some of the games around anyway.

I'm hoping that most of the group matches will be played on the 11th, but if we aim to get all of the group matches done by the 18th, then we might be able to arrange your matches with the rest of your group outside of the saturday slot.

Would hate to see people who want to take part have to miss it just because of just a few days. :(

fair points....
the game in 1v1 is not fun at all i agree, its pretty stressful really.
if your not having a good time (for whatever reason) get yourself into some 3v3s - that where the fun is, yeh theres some cheese but seriously not as much as 1v1s and me and my mates love it.

and even go custom games...no ranks or whatever and takes the stress off a lot.

I'm playing Terran in silver league; Haven't grasped the game fully yet but I am intending to start playing random in the near future.

Having a few problems with expanding; I do not move out quick enough so my map control is next to none... If the other player rushes, I usually win but if they build up, their mineral consumption opens a can of whoop ass on me!

I know someone has mentioned Kar and Indie's games, but of what I am aware, these guys play Protoss and Zerg respectively? If that's the case, could someone upload some Terran replays please? :)
 
Post some replays say a game you won and one where you felt you got out macroed and lost.

This is probably not the best advice, but truth is with Terran at this level you are better off sitting on one base. If he's expanding then maybe you're not pressuring him enough.

Vs protoss, the Protoss player simply cannot expand before the terran, or until he hurts the Terran. I'd master the 3 rax timing push and you'll 'win' most games against protoss and a lot against terrans. The gist is you build 2 tech lab raxes one fusion core rax and you build as many marauders and marines as you can. Once you have concussive shell and stim
researched you attack. While you are attacking have a command centre building.

This will just outright kill most Protoss players you face and contain terrans. When it's all over, no matter what happened in the fight you have an extra orbital command to mule with or fly to an expansion. You're ahead economically and usually militarily too.

It works against terrans too. Against Zerg mech lots of hellions and tanks and thors are pretty obnoxious. Harass while massing tanks when you push out to attack, build your command centre.

Generally with expansions when ever you win a battle or push out to make a big attack...expand. By the time the battle is over you'll have an expansion ready.

I can play some Terran through the league if you want to get some replays. Its not my best race by all means but its half decent, got me to mid diamond at least.

As Kar has said, at silver level its best just to perfect your macro game. just get used to always building the correct units, all the time. That way even when your attacking you have a defensive force, or a reinforcing force for your attack. Most plays in Bronze-Gold, even platinum wont be able to cope with a macro heavy player.

EDIT: I have now rebuilt my PC and it looks like Starcraft doesn't crash on me anymore, so i'll be playing moar ladder! :D

Where is the Korean tournament stream today?

Also had a weird game last night, TvT... Built up as normal had my marines in the wrong spot, this dude must have had about 20 + reapers all with speed and he took out everything lol. Learnt my lesson from that lets say lol.
