**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

I've just bought this with no idea what its about

i started installing it about 2 hours which only took 5mins and now im sitting through update after update

what i was wonderting is can i play the single player on this game without an internet connection (once its installed)

Was just playing PvT, and apparently the dude goes straight for a single Thor and sends it over with all his SCVs. Well, at my ramp I had 7-8 Stalkers, 5-6 Zealots, 4 VRs (was about to attack, honest! :o) and 2 Cannons, all of which made short work of his little stunt. ...He quit, and I :D

Heh, I can't imagine any situation where one would sit there and think that was a good idea.

Trying to learn to play zerg, which im finding fun in 4v4s with mates and customs, far more so than terran infact. However in 1v1s i keep getting 6 pooled and its doing my head in. Cant even get to build anything unless i 6 pool back but then i keep losing just after anyway. Sadface.

any specific map where this happens?

14 pool beats a 6 pool btw if you save your larva correctly.. its not entirely safe, but it does work.
best thing to do, should you be worried about it, is scouting a little earlier.

for small maps, scout at 9 or 10... you can normally get away with laying your pool down just before his completes. Slow his attack down with whatever you can.. I normally wack a spine crawler behind his mineral line. Forces him to pull drones or bring his lings back.
you could even send a drone out to meet the lings and just make them chase the drone for a couple of seconds, anything that can buy you tiny amounts of time for you to get your lings complete and your spine crawler up as defence.

Once you hold it off, its basically your game providing you don't lose all your drones.. which you souldn't.

Now I'm at the top of my division, I'm noticing that games are getting harder (duh). I lost to someone playing protoss last night, with 11 warpgates up...how the hell do you counter that kind of stalker/colossi army. I was at my supply cap, had lots of stimmed marines/mauraders/vikings/thors and all where fully upgraded, and they got utterly wasted, he barely lost any.

when it gets to the point where you both have 200/200 armies and a good economy, the best strategy is to harass different areas of his base so it will distract his main army.. keep his army moving around his base so its displaced and out of its key position (chokes etc) then you can strike.

As Terran, make use of your dropships... drop half your army into his base, take your vikings because when he moves his army to his base, his Colossi will get there first. Vikings in, dropships full of troops out.

Minimal damage to your army, much more damage to his base and army if you can pick off a few colossi :)

Aye I guess I've a lot to learn in terms of micromanagement.

Its jsut about reacting quick enough really. main thing to remember is if you see an early pool, wack down your pool asap

if they come for your drones, run them OFF your creep, zerglings get a speedboost on creep where as your drones don't. That hsould buy you enough tim to have your zerglings out, spine crawler up and then just attack with some drones mixed in, you can't lose :)

Very cool to watch, some nice ideas too. :)

Boxer is an absolute machine!

The most interesting Terran play i've seen to be honest, its normally turtle and then move out, but his harassment and multi-tasking is still on another planet! :o

I tried playing a few AI games as zerg, to learn the buildings, but I still just dont know enough about them. I've had a lot of success recently with hellion rushing the supply line, by which time they either ragequit or are so far behind I can win easily by overpowering them as I'm streets ahead on econ. Once I come up against the hundred muta's on screen though I get stumped..

Simple question: what do people protect their expansions with?

Not really a simple question? Which race do you play? What race is your opponent? How are they teching?

As a terran player a handful of marines in a bunker with a circle of turrets is enough to stop your basic harrass... Most important thing is the radar though, you see them coming on the minimap, scan them and then you have precious seconds to decide if its just a ling harrass blob, a muta blob in need of some thors and your viking army, or his entire lot/stalker/carrier wall of death at which point its time to cheese it :D

Usually if it's mid/late game i have three cannons in a triangle around my nexus.

But generally the best way to protect your expansions is to attack the opposition so they can't attack you. It's worth having a small detachment of units (4-5) back at base to respond to any small drops though (1/2 medivacs/olord/nydus). You can hold up their attack until you bring on reinforcements.

Yeah muta blob sucks :( thor + vikings + marines + point defense drones (raven) do alright, but unless you happen to have a full 200 army of them sitting around, a 200 muta army rolls most things unfortunately
