**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

what sort of zergs are you playing? it's probably the best map for zerg! massive rush differences, you have to spawn cross-positions, you can macro like crazy and still defend cheesy all-ins :)

It's all about the 15 nexus :D

If zerg 6 pools, you can defend on this map. Baneling busts are defendable by the time they become effective. If zerg hatches immediately, chronoboosted probes will outmacro them in the long run. If zerg double expands, a timing attack with 6 gateways or 4 gates + tech will punish them.

My basic build is 15 nexus, with the goal of a lategame fully upgraded gateway + HT army off of 3 bases and then expanding as and when I can (It's not like there's a shortage of possible expos :p)

Early game, pretty much all of my chrono will be going into probes. I dont think you can get away with such dedication to chrono'd probes on other maps as it'll cut into the unit count when zerg decides to attack. That might be why i always lose..hmm..

If it's a happy macro game, then once I have warp gate (6 warp gates + forge/4 warp gates + robo/5 warp gates + twilight/some other variation), I attack and take my third on the other half of my side of the map. I tend to find that zerg has tried to take their third by this point and you can take it down without too much trouble. This is also a good time to complete tech to HTs or something if you have put zerg on the back foot.

On no other map am i confident vs zerg. The only time I've actually lost was when i was dropped :(

Becuase the only balanced map out of those is crossfire. :p

The rest are really bad maps Blizzard threw in there for custom games. Blizzard are really really bad at making maps lol.

Haha! :o

Yeah, it's indeed a weak point for an otherwise great company.

Don't keep up with the news as much as some of you lot, but I wonder if they've said anything with regards to, say, bringing the topmost quality custom maps into the ladder..

They said they're gonna do it. But that's it. They didn't say when or how good the maps had to be or how they're going to decide which maps, but they said they were gonna put user made maps in the pool.

Have been away in a largely medieval balkan villiage over christmas, so not really up to speed. But any ideas what the patch will include?

Have been a bit occupied with Fallout 3 and BC2 of late so feeling the need to get back into sc :)

Last I heard blizzard were running a public beta for the latest patch, the patch notes for which are here:

http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/1213111662

Personally I can't see how the fungal growth thing is viable, but we'll have to see how it goes. Good news on the repairing scv's though :)

They have reverted fungal growth change and press a key each time for each unit (to prevent holding 1 key to make infinity units).

So fungal growth can hit air again and holding a key will work again.

The patch if I remember correctly should come out in the first week of January.

Awesome, looking forward to seeing PvP become more than just a 4-gate/blink -> colossi. 3 gate VR here i come :D

Also, OcUK chat channels anyone?

Awesome :), are there any revised patch notes floating around, or will we have to wait until it's released?

Sometimes I wonder why I bother playing Zerg, you need to completely outplay your opponent to win, getting a little tired of having to defend all sorts of pressure while the only two early attacks Zerg can do are so easy to spot and defend.

How to not die to stupid stuff as zerg:

Control the watchtowers with lings early/midgame.
Have a ling just outside their base, scout the top of their ramp as often as you can.
Sacrifice an OL if you feel that you need more info.
Having a 3rd queen for creep spread can save you if you get surprised by banshee/void ray.

LOL according to sc2ranks.com:

i'm rank 6 in the world, and rank 3 in europe (bronze league)

GG blizzard, i'm playing vs 2000 point diamond every game again, put me back to old rank plz ty.

Post replays! :D What sorts of stuff are you losing to?

As always, Rob gives excellent advice above :)

Was going to ask if you'd been promoted yet :p maybe there'll be another round in the new year and you'll be back up? :)

It's mainly ZvT and ZvP, now some of these games I'm losing due to mistakes I've made. But it's incredibly frustrating to outplay someone for 20mins and this one mistake costs you the entire game.

Guess I'm just getting a little annoyed that Terran in particular, can just pressure you so much early game without them facing any real risk. I'd love to be able to try something like that, but even the worst Terran can see that if a Z is 1basing then they're going for a bust. I'm trying to do everything mentioned above, but when someone sticks a few marines around the perimeter of their base then I'm left just guessing what they're going to do.

On the brightside I've won like 14 out of my last 15 ZvZs, and when you do beat someone who has thrown all this pressure at you early it's incredibly satisfying. It's just annoying how easy it can be for a Terran/Toss to get a build order win.

I'll have a look at some replays and post them in a bit.

Edit: Checked a few replays and it seems I just have no idea how I'm doing, I defended a Banshee rush and thought I was in huge trouble but a few mins later I'm miles ahead and could have won but played it safe and gave the game away.
