Original Xbox and Advanced Scart (RGB) Query/Issue

I have a little 14" TV, with a Scart Mode and RGB mode, both of which take input from the one scart socket on the back.

I got the official Advanced Scart Cable as I heard it offered better video quality. It arrived today, and when flicking between Scart mode and RGB mode, that the RGB mode on the TV was darker than the standard Scart mode, which for instance in the dark levels near the end of Halo2 made it quite hard to play. (note that the advanced cable was used at all times, as I was just flicking between AV modes on the TV).

Is this meant to happen or usual, or do I have a TV with a bad RGB playback mode? Would I still get an improvement on sound and video (the reason I bought the cable, as I heard it was far better than the composite standard lead) in standard scart mode, or do I need to use RGB mode for any sort of improvement, which might be a little unplayable due to light issues in dark games?

Sorry for all the questions, but I just hate to use materials not to thier potential. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I only use the TV for games on my SNES, Xbox and watching DVDs, so I dont mind tweaking the colour settings a bit.

If you can't tell the difference, does it matter?

RGB should be noticeably clearer and sharper, better definition between colours. I haven't ever noticed it being darker. Does your TV have brightness controls?

What is scart mode? Scart is a type of connector, not a signal.

I don't think the difference would be that noticeable on a 14" TV anyway.

Scart mode is the standard AV mode, which shows the input with a non RGB device. Theres a specific RGB mode as well, although the AV mode shows output as well as the RGB mode using an RGB cable and output, whereas the RGB mode will be black as there's no RGB signal. Sorry if Ive not explained too well.

I've tried upping the brightness as well, but its hard to find a good balance. Its hard to show exactly what i mean, without showing you the TV. Its almost as though the colours become richer, but almost too rich, so everything becomes quite dark. Unfortunately, the colour control doesnt affect the image the TV shows in RGB mode, and I've temporarily had to try and tweak it with the contrast and brightness controls.

Im not sure if this will help, i had a very similar problem as you have and i just adjusted the gamma levels on my xbox (in the game i think?) and this sorted the problems out, i don't often touch the settings of my tv, just change the settings on my xbox.
