Going to Orlando in July with the girlfriend and her family. We are staying on International Drive in the Quality Inn Plaza (basic, but all we need).

Has anyone been here or stayed very close to this place before? Generally looking some information, do's and don't etc...

None of us have ever been before! The package is with Virgin Atlantic and includes car hire.

Thanks :)

July to October is hurricane/tropical storm season is it not? :o

We went in Easter time, the temperature and humidity was just about right being 20-28 most days, remember when you go out to take some water with you, especially if you're going out during the middle of the day. Are you planning to do the theme parks? I would recommend Universal Islands of Adventure, there are some great rollercoasters there. :)

Ive not stayed in Orlando, only on the coast, but in July its going to be damned hot. A bit early for the hurrcanes I think, but sunscreen and hats should be the first things in your suitcase :D

Edited to add Busch Gardens is a must!!

July is likely to be VERY hot, and very humid. For the first few days, be very careful about how much direct sun you get. Half an hour in midday sun is enough to give most people that aren't acclimatised a dose of sunburn. Use suncream, limit exposure and wear a hat or something.

Nope. June thru November, inclusive.

Thanks for the replies...

Yep we will be doing the theme parks and possibly the space station, any experience of this?

Also looking to visit Disney World (3yr old coming).

Pic will definitly be taken :D

It'll typically be a bit hotter, but a lot stickier in Orlando than either coast, at that time, because you don't have any ocean breezes.

Disney isn't just for 3 year olds, myself and Lynnie are staying *in* Disneyworld Florida in July/August (fly out 29th July for 2 weeks) :)

I've been myself once before, so obviously recommend all the Disney parks (MGM Studios is excellent, was probably my fave Disney park), Universal and Universal Islands of Adventure, and Sea World. There's also the Discovery Cove where you can swim with Dolphins (which we're doing) which should be an amazing experience. Didn't get chance to go to Kennedy or Busch Gardens, everything else took up 2 weeks when I last went and will probably do so again. :)

Absolutely. When I went previously it was in early June, and the temperature was often around 95°f and about 90%+ humidity. We were sweating from pretty much the moment we left the hotel.

I wasnt a bit fan of the parks and we went early in the year (Feb) and it was perfect... Nice in the day, mostly 25-28 degrees and walm in the evening... If you play golf then you will be in heaven but it tends to cost a fair whack (Geddit?) Tonnes and Tonnes of places to eat on IDrive... I challenge anyone not to find something they like to eat on there from burgers to 10 course chineese meals... There is even a english pub that does real roast beef and yorkshire pud!

Shopping is great... Go to the Beltz (Pronounces bells) outlet mall at the top of i drive... very cheap...

Dunno if its still there but there was a great place i think called wonderworks which is an upside down house on i drive that has loads of science stuff that will make you go ooooooh and wow!

The only things i didnt like about Orlando was A) The flight there and back (Air 2000 is VERY cramped) and B) My mates missus was a complete nutter!

Other than that have a great time...

Oh my friend went in july and he said it was VERY hot and humid... And generally there is a thunder storm at 3pm every day...

Oh and dont bother with Epcot... Its one of the most mind numbingly boring places on earth!

Kennedy Space Centre is a fantastic day out. We found tickets to be cheaper purchsed from a local ticket agent than through Virign first time we went. It's also best to pay for the "higher" package for Kennedy as you get to goto the launch pads and Hangar.

Been 5 times now. Hopefully 6 at Xmas

We went inland to Busch Gardens and I felt ill within about an hour (with a hat and sunscreen) I can do heat, but humidity floors me. Just keep drinking water, then drink some more...you'll be fine :)

I've just got back from Florida, absolutly awesome :D

I've been before and stayed in the hotel you're staying in and it's basic but nice and it's in a very good location, you can easily get to Seaworld just by driving down International Drive by turning left out of the entrance or turn right and you can take the I-4, which will take you to Universal and Disney World and pretty much anywhere else in the state so prime location.

Going in July isn't the best idea as it'll be very hot, I was there last week and it was in the 80's  it'll probably be quite busy in July too, I found Universal and Seaworld to be pretty much empty last week but MGM and Animal Kingdom were pretty busy but then as its Disney it'll always be busy.

Make sure you get an Orlando Flexticket, its about $200 so £130ish and it'll give you unlimited access for 14 days to Seaworld, Universal, Islands of Adventure and Wet n Wild, you can pay a bit extra and get access to Busch Gardens too. Disney have their own ticket system, which varies in price depending upon how many days you want to spend at Disney, offering a larger discount for the more days you spend there.

Anyways you'll have a great time and don't get too tired, I was only there for a week this time and went to the parks 12 times in 7 days so I was rather tired by the end of it lol. O also make sure you get to the parks about half hour before they open so you can hit the popular rides first without queing. (Universal sometimes let you in about 2 hours before the official park opening so you can go in with hardly anyone else there if you have a flex ticket, don't know if they still do it though)

Thanks again for the tips!

We will definitly be at most of the parks + discovery cove & kennedy space centre. On the topic of tickets... Is it any cheaper to buy the tickets when we get there compared to buying them in advance?

Roll on July 7th :D

Oh and the Disney waterparks were absolutely awesome. Blizzard beach and the 120ft high near vertical summit plummet slide is absolutely brilliant. :D

Been half a dozen times to Leesburg NW of Orlando but have done most parks, particular fav was Islands of Adventure.

Always remember if your going to go driving places keep some change on you for the tolls.

Bush gardens I didn't enjoy but all the others are ok if you don't mind all the queuing ( am a old fart when it comes to trips). Sea world I liked though. You can get those queue jumping passes for Universal etc but they are no good if lots of people have them as your still end up queuing.

Some malls in and around Orlando I remember.

-Florida Mall is the expensive one with lots of designer shops.
-Beltz
-Seminole mall forget where that is but its a bit of a drive.
-Millenium Mall
-West Oakes

One more but can't remember its name :(

Your find similar shops in each mall anyhow stocking the same items (depending on the shop size).

Pac-Sun was my personal favourite though.

If your going to go off track from the tourisim bit visit the nearest Cracker Barrel stall for morning Brekkie :)

Theres a mall near leesburg (forgotten name) which has a few cinema screens there and the prices are all non touristy. If you go driving I recommend Clearwater and St Johns Pass.

I think it's slightly cheaper if you buy them in advance over here but you will only save a few dollars or so, o I completely forgot about Discovery Cove, buy the tickets for that over here as its very popular and tickets are limited so its not over crowded, absolutly amazing place that is.

I've been advised by a friend to stand near the bottom of that for a while as women who go down it in bikini tops often don't come up still wearing them :D
