Hmmm just a thought. If your cpu is 1.5 vcore standard. You don't have a San Diago core (which would run at 1.30/1.35 vcore running on 90nm tech) you will have the older core made on 130nm manufactur process. These cpus don't overclock very well at all.

And btw 61c isn't to hot for the AMD Athlon 64 at all. regardless of the tech used to produce it. 90nm/130nm. An Athlon64 will work quite happily at 70c maybe even 80c

And I can't see any fan you get improving your overclock any to be honest. invest than money in an AMD AthlonX2 3800+ which will coxt you about the same as a decent heatsink anyway. that will most likely overclock to 2.5ghz with ease and give better all round performance over your 4000+.

Should you just want one core running like a bat out of hell think about a San Diago core 4000+ (90nm) which you should probably see 2.8ghz out of if your lucky maybe more. Ofcourse there is always the issue of luck with overclocking.

I'd probably agree with the above poster that this CPU is likely a 130nm Clawhammer rather than a San Diego 90nm. That would explain the default 1.5V, the low overclock and the higher temperatures. You're probably looking nearer 1.575V to 1.600V to get that overclock stable. 61*c is pretty toasty and personally I wouldn't be looking into higher voltages without a better cooler.
 
yes its the clawhammer :( 1.650 i think is the highest and thats when its was 67 or so, at 1,550 its 63MAX and stable but everytime it goes over 2,530! it just gets errors and doesnt work :(

I play cod4 a lot and want the best fps possible, is a 3800 the best to get as my x850 surely would be wasted on a 4400? or along those lines? socket 939 btw



AMD X2 4400+ Dual Core Socket 939 how much would that cost me for oem and will it fit my current hsf or should i buy a new one with it. the stepping is CCBWE is that good or bad?

the 4000+ is not a bad cpu its just not the best overclocker. if you are looking at a cpu upgrade though look at the opteron 175, 180 and 185. they sell for £80, £100 and £140 respectivly. you could also hit up a 3800+ x2 at £40 or a 4000+ San diago for £25.

I would consider none of the above cpus to be to far out of spec with your x850xtpe. infact your system is looking fairly good a cpu upgrade should see it last another year easily and after that a gfx card upgrade could give it another year or more after that. the cpu isnt the be all and end all of a system. ofcourse its nice to have the best.

what kind of budget do you have to play with? im not actually sure if you would be better with a cpu or gfx upgrade or both tbh.
 
Just the best bang for buck really, the only problem with a graphics card upgrade is my psu is 480w thermaltake butterly its aparantly got crap 12v rails :(

So pretty much upgrading the gfx card is out of question atleast for paying over £70 as its not much a difference from my current card :(

yes that was actually a stunning deal on that cpu. didnt realise the bay was selling them so cheeply. just a note though i dont think you allowed to link to, or even mention competition sites so you may want to remove that link tbh.

as for your psu i really dont think that you need strong rails for a card such as the 3850 wich has a very low power draw. your x850xt probably takes more. you may even be able to get a 3870 in there without issue. a good time for you to upgrade would be january i think. for gfx cards anyway. you shouldnt see much change in the price of 939 cpus unless a lot of ppl upgrade at christmas and try to sell on their old parts after christmas.
 
hmmm at a guess i would say £30-40.

infact in the new year after everyone is shipping out their old kit after upgrade pressents you may not even get that tbh :S check the site you linked to before. for a rough idea.

considering that i would probably just keep it as a spare. or post it to me!! :D lolz
 
you sure about dropping the ram timings? what to? i was using standard and had my ram at 400 or 402 it can take around 425/430 if i remember correctly.
