Ok, I think I've sorted out the BIOS issue. I remembered that by default my GeIL doesn't work properly and that last time it needed the voltages altering to work, when I cleared CMOS this obviously reset the settings back to the default for the RAM and thus the voltage returned to its unstable setting. I have set it back to 2.1v and now I have CPU features customised and the overclock is fully working 
Just done a good session on Orthos, reported no problems. So this problem has now been resolved.
