OS Drive advice?

Hi,

I have recently purchased the Primo Neo OCUK PC which came with Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB drive. I decided that I would my old WD Raptor 74gb for the Win7 OS for faster performance and use the Seagate for Documents etc.

After a installation, I cannot put up with the access drive noise from the Raptor, ITS LOUD! I was wondering what other drive would you recommend for the OS or should I use the Seagate even though it would be a waste for the OS due to its size?? I also have a 36gb Raptor but I think that would be just as loud and it may not be big enough for all applications.

Thanks

Depending on your budget you could go for a 320GB~ mechanical hdd, I use one for OS and one for games, that'll be about £35.

If you're willing to spend more (a fair bit more), you could go for a SSD, probably only need an 80GB for OS and apps. I've no idea on which would be the best to go for, so hopefully someone else will chip in and advise. :)

You could always partition the seagate...say 100Gb for C: OS and a few apps and the rest for D: data, games etc

The C: partition would be on the outside/first part so would be accessed first/quicker

Don't like the idea of OS and Docs on the same drive to be honest.
I have also heard that partitioning results in a reduction of performance..

Nope, no problem on my Seagate

That leaves you with tibbsey's suggestion(s)

Smaller mechanical drive or lash out on a SSD for the OS and keep the 500Gb for docs etc
