Currently got HDD's in sig but the smaller 250GB is faulty. So I now want to just have a drive of say 120GB and just use that as my OS, and may partition it say 80GB OS and the other 40GB as a spare for another OS, maybe Ubuntu(if I ever get around to playing with that)

Didnt want SS as they are too expensive. Thanks all :)

Dam, well I can't take it back now as I've installed vista on it. Are they much quicker, surppse I could use the 500 for storage and get the 320 aswell, what do you think?

The 320s are a single platter so will be a bit quicker. I've just orderd one for my OS and I'm going to use a 500 just for storage and backup.

it's not just the single platterr/double platter, it's the size of the platters that give the performance boost.

the 320GB uses one 320GB platter, the 640GB uses 2x320GB platters.
The 500GB uses 2x250GB platters.

The 320GB platters have a larger capacity in the same physical space, hence slightly faster reads and throughput.

Picked up a 320 today so will use that for my is and apps with a partition of about 100gb and use the 500 as storage. Plus I've got a seagate500 which I will use as a backup of the F1 500. Loads of storage space :-D

I'd go with a 150gb velociraptor if you can get one, i couldn't wait so decided to go for the 300gb one, which is more space than i really need but hey.

Very pleased with the performance though.
