Hi, i just replaced the hard drive on my laptop.
I used dban on my replacement drive before fitting it into my laptop.

The problem i have is that when i try to install windows xp on to the laptop, the laptop will not boot from the cd drive.
Ive been into the bios and changed the setting so the cd drive boots first but it just doest seem to work.
The cd drive is spinning and trying to read but nothing happens and i just get a black screen with a flashing cursor.

My xp disk is fine and works in my pc, and ive done a scan on the hard drive which has passed.

Im using an original xp disk, i dont have the recovery disk that came with the laptop

Help please

Its a compaq c300ea

I dont think it is a dead CD drive, it was working fine when i used dban on it, as soon as dban had finished thats when the problems started

There is two settings relating to this in this particular laptop bios, one is to enable/disable cdrom booting and the other is the boot order, ensure both are set correctly.
