OS on SSD, docs on HDD

Hi,

I'm getting a new SSD

I want to install the OS (Windows 8.1) on the SSD, and have all the documents and most programs on the HDD.

How can I do that?

When installing do a custom install and redirect to appropriate HDD

Will that allow me to specify where I want documents to be saved?

I know how to install the OS on the SSD.

Google relocating my documents folder.

Some programs ie MS Office also allow you to redirect where docs are saved.

Do a custom install for what ever program(s) it is you are installing to point it to the HDD

Just move the location of your Documents, Music, Pictures etc folders to the HDD and they'll be used by default by any programs that use those paths.

You generally don't want to install programs to the HDD (unless they're huge games) as you're defeating the purpose of having the SSD by doing so. Don't be afraid to install stuff to the SSD; it's there to to be used, not to sit mostly-empty while your HDD gets thrashed.

Make sure that only the SSD is connected during install.
