I have 2 IDE HDD's and a new Sata HDD that i got today. Previously, one of the IDE HDD's held the OS. I need to have my new Sata HDD as the OS drive. I've created an image of the IDE HDD OS partition, and restored/transferred it to the Sata HDD and everything seems ok, OS runs fine from the Sata drive. Is it ok to do this though, or is it a better bet to install the XP OS from scratch onto the new Sata HDD?

It is generally advisable to go for a fresh install as the system is then cleaner but if it works and you are happy that it might be a little more 'cluttered' than a clean installation I wouldn't worry about it too much. :)

I think ghosting the image over is just fine, the only thing which changes is the hard drives ID and serial number - you probably noticed it said "found new hardware" when you booted up after copying the image to your sata drive. I have done it a few times before with no problems at all.

yeah do this a lot use Acronis with the universal recovery patch, dumps a copy of XP on any PC and redetects the new drivers just fine on sata or ide drives:)
