For example.. I'm browsing my Documents folder, I'd like it so that when I arrange icons by name, it puts then in alphabetical order, but with the folders first, then the files.

I guess I'm just used to doing this in Windows XP.. any way to do it in OS X?

if you open the 'view options' for the folder you wish to rearrange select the 'keep arranged by' value to kind. This will put your items in alphabetical order and also separate by types so folders will be before files. It works for me anyway!

Just tried that, didn't work :(

It arranges by file type, but the folders aren't always first

Other than using pathfinder I don't think there is. It annoyed me at first, but I'm used to it now. I hope they do something nice to finder for this apparently 'feature complete' Leopard demo :)

I think the order by kind does work, but only if you are in a particular folder view (either list or columns, can't remember which).. in any other view it still seems to put anything with an extension before 'directory' first (dmgs for instance)
