OS X Mavericks - general chat

Morning all, as title really.

Downloading now on my painfully slow broadband.... no official release notes available yet, although there is an iPhoto update immediately available that fixes an crashing issue using iPhoto in the GM.

Update: MBA survived an update installation fine. Was already a pretty clean installation, with only a few core apps and a few additional (iWork etc), like Evernote and the like. All nicey nicey.

The iMac though.... have done a full backup in prep for a clean install, but thought I'd try an upgrade for fun. Acrobat XI throws a total fit, bombing every attempt to start. The other real oddity is that the monitor graphic in Displays prefs is mirrored upside down! Have no idea why and there's rotation action going on.

That being the case with the iMac, I'm doing a USB installer now and will clean install once that's done.

Happy with the MBA, as I've been running with it since DP1 through to DP8 then GM and know it's OK for for what it gets used for.

So those that are using it, Clean install? Or just upgrade over current OS?

Did both:
  • upgrade on the MBA over DP8
  • clean on the iMac (previously Mountain Lion)

Used both over the weekend quite a bit and to be honest, they're both pretty much the same. Did try an upgrade on the iMac at first, but there was an oddity on Displays preferences where the depitction of the display was upside down!... thought I'd do a clean later on instead, no Aussie monitor this time.

I've got a Mac Pro in for upgrade that I'll need to do this week, but I'm not anticipating any shenanigans with that one.

As per the later issues of the DP, all my core apps just work and I've not had to upgrade anything to newer (read "paid") versions to get them working.

You can't get GM unless.... the plan is that developers do get Mavericks for free ...

That's pretty much the same as every recent release though, isn't it?

Saying that, you can still pay for it again after the fact, even though you've already paid your Mac dev fees for the year!...

Never understood that to be honest, paid up Mac dev that gets the DPs and the actual GM, yet some of them still insist on supping the Koolaid and paying again! Plenty of talk of such things over at Macrumors and whilst I know some Apple fans can be a little fanatical, paying again for something you're already legally entitled to use strikes me as daft.

Still, GM is pretty sweet and I'm all good with it.

Yeah DP8, but I was under the impression that the GM would not be available from the software update in the Mac App Store.

I reckon they'll have pushed it, to counter any issues with expiring DPs and the like. That's all I can think really.

Heads up forumites, looks like Apple have silently updated the GM prior to public release....

Dev portal's still showing the same version, but downloading from App Store again pulls the new build down. There's a bit more info in the linked thread (and links onward from there to Apple dev forums), but to be honest there doesn't seem to be that much meat on the bones of what the changes are.

I'll be downloading tomorrow to rebuild my USB installer, but there don't appear to be any reported show stoppers.

CHEEKY ADDITION:
Apple's documentation in general for Mavericks has been woeful so far. It's really hard as a developer to figure out precisely what they've changed. :(

Not wrong at all there!

I'm still getting the 1004 error trying to download GM1 > GM2.... thoroughly cleaned and eradicated the GM1 installer, so not sure what's going on. Everything's working for me so far on GM1 though, so I'm not too bothered really.
