Hi,

Been Reading aroundthe web and seen that this is now becoming possible with Oracle's new virtual box software.

Found a few videos on YouTube of people setting it up as well.

Just wondering if it's possible and would I simply be able to buy a retail version of os x and put it on my intel pc as a virtual machine?

Or is this a grey area and should be left well alone?

There is just a lot of videos on YouTube and if it's possible I'd like to look into it.

Just to test the possibilities.

through certain... questionably legal file distribution methods, you can download a pre-made OSX Virtual Machine, along with a thirty day trial of the software you need to run it.

remember, As far as Apple is concerned, it is against the law to install OSX on anything other than a macintosh, VM's included, so even if you have a legitimate copy of OS 10.6.2 you will technically be breaking the EULA...

Mods, feel free to delete this if it infringes the rules regarding Warez etc...

Ok. I think it needs some further investigation but it looks like the possibilities are there.

Was just curious to see if it could be done.

It can be done, you can use VMWare Workstation to virtualise OS X 10.6 on a Windows platform but you need to make use of the questionably legal OSx86 project to boot and install it. Even when you've got it installed it's not going to be a great experience due to virtualisation going on.

Does this osx x86 project provide some sort of patch to allow a retail version of os x 10.6 to run in windows?

Is this only possible in vmware and not virtual box? Virtual box would be the better option as it's open source.

Ignoring for a second how to actually do it, it really offers nothing over Linux. You can even make it pretty much exactly the same with mac4lin.

It has no graphics acceleration which is an annoyance but to try your hand at OS X in terms of getting around the OS and basic applications it's grand. I may be posting from it now.

Installing OS X on anything other than a Macintosh is against Apples EULA and any discussion regarding this is not allowed on these forums I'm afraid. :)
