Well the results are in, what does everyone think? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6395861.stm<<<<winners

Disappointed that "The Departed" one best picture, thought it was dire in comparision to his other films and paled to Infernal Affairs it ripped the story from. He deserved an oscar for direction though, about time.

Forest Whitaker defo deserved his, loved his performance in LKoS and The Shield from a while ago.

To sleepy to discuss others....... :o <yawn

For once I've no real complaints, I agree with all the main awards, except I was hoping for Djimon Hounsou to win the best supporting actor ascor, although Alan Arkin was pretty good as well, but here's the main winners anyway:

There's a 2 hour highlight programme on SkyThree from 9pm on Tuesday (i think) night.

I thought that as well, and I'm shocked at Babel's nominations too, it was a shocking film in my opinion.

A loved the editing in Children of Men - it was superb. The final scene where the camera doesn't seem to cut for about 10 minutes is absolutely stunning.

This must be added to my DVD collection soon! :D

Happy for Scorsese. Remarkable that the man who directed Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas and The King Of Comedy (less well known but brilliant) gets his oscar for a comparatively average film by his standards.

I disagree. After watching The Departed, i sat through all the Infernal Affairs and thought they werent half as good. I guess maybe if you watched them first a long time ago you may have rose-tinted specs -- but to me The Departed was a lot easier to follow, better shot, well.. better everything. I think it's one of those rare cases where a remake is better than the original.

I'm just glad Forest Whitaker won his Oscar. I knew nothing about Idi Amin but i was terrified every time he was on screen. Great film.

The writer of The Departed purposely didn't watch the original film(s) and I think it shows; in that it did have it's own identity and didn't come across as simply the same film in a different language.

I agree with you that it was easier to follow and better shot but I guess your first statement is true, it could be the rose-tinted specs. Infernal Affairs trilogy is one of my favourite Hong Kong films and my housemates are all the same, all prefered IA to Departed.

Surprised Will Smith didn't get one :(

I reckon he would have been next in line if Forest hadn't done the whole physcho-funny dictator thing.
