While there may or may not be very subtle differences, the fact is that Safari Windows does use the same font rendering system as OSX, and it does not use Windows' rendering system at all. Are we agreed on that much.

It certainly seems so. If I change display settings on XP, the font in Safari doesn't blink.

But it looks nicer on a Mac, so what's gone wrong?

Are you sure it is different or could it be down to the different monitors you are viewing it on? It would be interesting to have an on screen comparison on the same monitor.
