Im just wondering what sort of cooling you will need in a consumer level case to keep 8/16 cores cool.

I take it they are going to run VERY cool?
 
i wonder how HT will work on multi cores... i assume running a program on 1 real core and 1 "hyperthreading core" is slower than on 2 real cores, maybe on say an 8 core, to the os, cores 1-8 will be the real ones and 9-16 the ht ones? so ht is only ever used for 9+ threaded programs? no one knows for sure except intel yet though.

Nehalem cores with hyperthreading should be faster than normal cores, i.e. per-core performance boost - just not twice as fast.
Depends massively on the software being run though.

Theoretically, running two threads on the same core can give an advantage. The canonical example is to have one thread that is essentially just prefetching data for the other thread on the same core. There have been (theoretical) studies showing you can get significant performance improvements over two separate cores by doing this. It's debatable whether it would work in real life, however.
