Hi

I am just wondering what stuff other people do outside of work to generate income on the side? (No pimping your own businesses coz dats agains' da rulez) Also how does it serve you income- wise in relation to your main income? I'm really interested to know how many enterprising individuals there are out there.

I'll start the ball rolling...

Personally I am attempting to launch my own web-based business soon (I'm pretty excited about it as I don't think it has been done before and see no reason why not) & currently do a lot of investing on AIM. The latter has netted me around 20-30% profit PA in the past 2 years (a mixture of spectacular multibaggers and complete stinkers!!)

Please tell me about yours and what you do :)

I'll be very interested in this thread as I'm looking to earn some extra.

Nothing at the moment however I am hoping that they will actually release the RepRap parts soon. when that comes out I have several ideas to generate some money, but be mainly for fun to begin with. It all depends exactly how detailed the finish can be.

I fear it will be difficult for many to answer this without pimping their own business.

My 'sideline' has been running for four years and now accounts for a greater income than my 'main' business. I'll be looking to divest myself of the main business in a couple of years, enter semi-retirement and continue to operate the 'sideline'.

Well I am kind of hoping people can say what it is they do- not blatantly, but just say they do webhosting, or dish washing, or fudge packing or whatever it is...

*Edited*

I have been running my "sideline" vehicle trading thing for around a year now and it now accounts for around 50% of my income alongside my dayjob.

Long term plans are unknown, i like my job, and i would be bored without it, so its staying for the forseeable future and i will continue to expand the other thing slowly in my free time. I am also looking into a car parts operation at the moment, which should be fairly lucrative if it goes well.

I definately wouldnt want to be back to one income again, making your own money is very rewarding and in my experience so far, much easier than working for it through someone else's company.

Im a bit of a frustrated electronic delboy.

I buy and sell anything that is likely to make a profit

recent purchases included 12 Nintendo Wiis and two pallets of catalogue return electronic goods.

And how did it go spoonz? did you actually make profit from it?

Jez- that's pretty cool. Is that your actual car in your sig? :D If so, you must be doing pretty well overall!

Buy and sell a few things on the side when the opportunity arises , nothing mahor anymore

If I've got a bad month I'll do a few deals over the weekend or from home when I shouldn't be working which makes up for it :)

I know a few people buying pallets of 14 day stock, but i don't have the patience to deal with that :p

Yeah you make a profit but its more for the buzz of making a few quid that what you make.

You would never make a million :D

yeh, but you need a fair capital to do that like 1k+

you made much money with A grades?

Yep, you need to outlay around 1k and have storage. You can make about 30-40%. Its quite a bit of work but if you had 3k lying about and loads of free time you might be able to make a living.

You need to research the products you getting, picking a good pallet is the key, and be realistic about sell prices.

Where would one find detail on these return pallets? Always looking for additional things to do.

30-40% margin is insane, the earning potential sounds HUGE?

Would also be interested as long as the next post he submits doesn't contain 'ebay' :D

Good point, well made.

I show people how to get free home utility bills. And introduce charity and community groups to an easy and continuing way of raising funds.

And McLovin please take your inane crap elsewhere... this is meant to be a serious thread- not for idiotic comments.
Well said.

This is something I've also been interested in, for a while now. I'd been attempting to find ways of investing, perhaps a majority of my wages each month to hopefully generate more money, in the long run. I've looked at stocks, but there doesn't seem to be much money in that. Most other opportunities require a lot more attention.

I can think of one guy selling pallets at the moment, do a search for Tic Mobiles they usually have some bits.

Otherwise get in touch direct with high street chains , some of the lots available are quite big, one chain offered me 30 pallets recently , some only with 14 day laptops !

I think 30-40% can be realistic, but from the guys I know doing this say its a real pain sorting through / testing everythng - not something I'd like to do

Even if it did, if there is really even half that margin to be realistically achieved then it still sounds like an absolute gold mine, if i threw enough capital at it subbed a couple of people to process everything.

Stocks as in the stock market?, If this is what you speak of, believe me there is plenty of cash to be made if you know what you're doing, and plenty of cash to be lost if you don't :D
