On reflection, I think /b/ might be a bit much for some of the delicate flowers that frequent GD.
I would prescribe those some smelling salts and tissues.

I like 'OcUK GD' because it has a very distinct voice and sense of humor, and people tend to be honest with their opinions, overall I think the community is quite right wing although being a lefty I like that, I prefer to surround myself in people that will make me question my ideals rather than agree.
Outside of 'GD' I like enjoy 'OT' on NeoGAF, very friendly forum.

There is a secret OCUK forum that only certain people know about.
It's apparently a bit like a underground gay bar.
I think GD type forums are arguably a bit less relevant now as a lot of websites have integrated comments (e.g. for discussion of topical news) coupled with social media. Most of the non-topical topics I find interesting could arguably slot into a sub-section, or are 'meta-threads' (related to the forums themselves, like this one).
I go to The Digital Fix forums, formally the DVD Forums. It complete rubbish there now but i go out of habit. The TV forums there is still better then here but GD is a waste land with core of about a dozen sociopaths with a superiority complex.
There's a great thread right now on there and it completely confirms what i suspected. The forums there has been in decline for a few years now with barely anyone posting outside the core group when it used to be almost as busy as this place in it's heyday. But as the core group abuse other users they leave over time and now hardly anyone posts outside the group, if they do then the abuse kicks in.
The core now blame twtter and facebook for the decline and think all other forums are suffering the same fate what a bunch of idiots!!!! The digital fix used to be my main forums i visit and now i noticed in the last 2 years that this is now the first place i visit.

airgunbbs has a good active general forum plus a members forum where potentially more controversial discussions can be had.
