Other Websites Statistics and Traffic Information

Hi There,
I have a bit of an interesting one for you. My boss came to me this morning and explained that he was talking to a fellow in the car park last night about being able to find other websites traffic statistics and their referrers. He's asked me to investigate this further. I have a great hunch that this is not possible, but does anyone know of any ways in which to find this kind of information out?

Search for unprotected web stats or see if their apache logs are publicly viewable, look for common names for them etc. Other than that the only way to do it would be to somehow get a script or something onto their server that reports stuff to you. Which would most likely be less than legal. In fact, due to the way the computer misuse act is worded, even if they gave you permission to do it, they could still sue you.
