Anyone any idea what would cause this please?:eek:

PSU or the mainboard? thanks

PSU is this one: http://xfxforce.com/en-us/products/psu/xxx/P1-650X-CAG9.aspx

board in my sig :mad::mad::mad:

Nasty. Looks like something was drawing more power than it was designed to handle.

From a quick glance it looks like 1090T @ 4gig draws more power than that board can reliable provide.

did that just happen all of a sudden and id be looking at the psu and weird how only the bottom 4 connection are burnt and not the top 4 which makes me look at the psu

Could be a dodgy motherboard overloading itself but I'd think that a dodgy PSU is more likely.

Either way it's RMA time for both and hopefully it's not taken out anything else.

It took out one of my sticks of ram last week - just got them sorted from rma and this happens

The vrm's on the mainboard used to make a lot of noise under load sometimes - so i may have to kiss both goodbye :(

Think it was the PSU power connector that got too hot to handle the load - pffft XFX!

Since it seems it's just limited to the socket/plug I'm inclined to say it was just a poor connection in there that has overheated.

I've had the same thing happen with an ATX connector, it's caused by improper contact between the socket and the plug, it causes high resistance and arcing which then causes the socket and plug to heat up and melt

lol - it stunk!!

Anyways I've RMA'd the PSU along with a note asking for compensation from XFX :)
Prob gunna do the same with the board and let them fight it out who owes who lol

Some guy on another forum showed me his gigabyte - EXACTLY the same fault - after he'd RMA'd the board to gigabyte they diagnosed it as a blown capacitor which in turn caused this!!

Either Asus owe me a new PSU or XFX owe me a new Motherboard.

LOL - I couldn't wait and ended up buying the Crosshair IV and a Corsair 850Watter in the meantime, lol - hope this crosshair IV has better caps!

this is exactly right...

had you had it unplugged for some reason then put it back together?

Ouch, that's a nasty one mate!!!

Every review I've read regarding those XFX PSU's have said that they're not very good at all, as I was considering getting the 850w one, but after all the bad reviews I went for the Corsair HX850 instead.

Hope you get everything sorted out though, it will be interesting to know how long your Asus RMA takes, as they're supposed to have this 'amazing' 5 day turn around for RMA'd hardware, though I've yet to see any evidence of this.
