Ouija boards - don't mess with them

Seeing as how it's Halloween, I thought it appropriate to post this. When I was a kid, probably about 12 years old, myself and my two older brothers (3 years older), created a Ouija board by simply writing out the letters of the alphabet and putting them in a circle. And then we put a tiny drinking glass in the centre. Lights turned down and we all put our finger on the glass.

What happened scared the living **** out of me. After a slow start, the glass started moving faster and making sentences. It got to the point where it was saying " I.. WANT.. YOUR.. SOU.." at which point I panicked and turned the lights back up.

I absolutely 100% know that I wasn't pushing the glass and I absolutely know my brothers wouldn't have either. But it stopped me ever messing around with this stuff again. I'm genuinely not making this up. When I eventually saw the Exorcist movie, it reminded me of this experience, as that whole movie is about possession started by playing with a Ouija board. I'm mostly a sceptic about ghosts and the like, but often think back to that experience and it reminds me that there is something to it all.

They're crap brothers then, get new ones.

Good point. Noted.

Logically how would a glass and a circumference of letters and numbers be spiritual or have any meaning.

The glass never moves its a psychological perspective of belief, or some retard pushing the glass.

It can move but not on its own basic physics.

You're thinking purely in terms of known logic but no-one really knows what unearthly things exist that defy logic.

They were only after your souvenirs. Ouija spirits love getting souvenirs from all the places they get summoned from. They're really into that kitschy touristy crap.

Lol, I wish it was that, but I know exactly what it wanted.

I must add that contrary to me saying I would never do it again, I do recall doing it once again years later with friends, but on that one I know they were pushing the glass, plus there was lots of giggling. So if you ever want to try it and prove it to yourself, just make sure you do it with people you totally trust wouldn't prank you and aren't playing around.

You only put a sprit in a glass to drink. How on earth can you catch one to put in a glass, if the is such a thing.

Run around the garden with an empty glass hoping to catch one.

Its all fairy tale stuff to me, why not use a cup? Why a glass? How come so called sprits can enter glass but not a cup? Is it because a cup is opaque?[/QUOTE

I wish I could answer those questions, I've no idea. I don't blame anyone for being sceptical. I just know what I experienced, what I saw happen in front of my eyes.

Put a stack of four or five coins, poker chips or similar on top of the upturned glass to show whether the glass is doing the pulling or the fingers are doing the pushing. :)

I don't think it works like that. I believe it would always require a person's finger if a spirit is to be summoned. They do say that the bad souls, the people that did heinous crimes, inhabit the closest spirit plane to earth and those are the ones that are easily contacted, such as in the case where I turned the lights back on.

Ouiji boards are for losers who can't get girlfriends, council estate inhabitants, poor people and/or morons. Which one are you OP?

Gosh, what a jolly good question. Hmm, well, I live with my girlfriend, own my home completely mortgage free in london, and it's not an ex-council house either. I guess that just means I must be a moron. :)

You put your fingers on top of the stack. If the glass is moving itself then the bottom of the stack will move before the top. If the fingers are moving the glass then the top of the stack will move first.

I see what you mean. That makes sense and would be a good way to prove it. That said, I still stand by my original experience, that it was for real.

you only think it was real - there's a difference between that and actual reality.

Even if the glass was being pushed by me, it was spelling out words and making a coherent sentence. I know 100% that I didn't have any sentence in my mind that I was trying to manipulate, my finger was simply being moved around, sometimes rushing from one side of the circle to the other, and at one time so fast it almost fell off the table. I know my brothers would not have had manipulated it either. Why do I confidently say that? Simply because I know my brothers.

Sure you do ;)

I sure do. ;)

I love the way all the disbelievers are so confident, almost to the point of patronising, that they know that anyone who has had a supernatural experience must be talking rubbish.

They explain how it's simply not possible, how it's all in the mind, that it can't be true because of this and that.

It's not like they're even prepared to sit on the fence and be open minded about it, it's a plain 'you're wrong and I'm right because science says so'.

It's impossible for anyone to say for sure that there aren't other dimensions and forces that exist beyond what man has knowledge of.

No-one is able to prove it, only disprove.

Can't prove it, I agree. But how is anyone able to disprove something like this? Science can suggest all sorts of things like the subconscious is at work or kinetic energy or something similar. That's not hard proof, it's fact it's not proof at all.

I love the way creduloids are so confident, almost to the point of arrogance, that they know they are so special that they have had a supernatural experience.

They explain how it must be possible, how it can't be all in the mind, it must be true because of this and that (muh bruthers neva prank)

It's like they're not even prepared to be logical about it, it's a plain 'I'm right and you're wrong because my personal experience says so'

No one says for sure that there aren't other dimensions and forces that exist beyond what man has knowledge of...what do you think it is scientists do, if not look to uncover exactly those things?

I'm nowhere close to being arrogant in my posts. I'm just pointing out how quick people are to be dismissive of such things instead of trying to have an open mind. I'd be quite happy if my experience was either proved or disproved, I wouldn't feel any less a person for it not being a true supernatural happening.

And your last paragraph seems to be in agreement with me, so I'm not really sure what your post is trying to say.

Actually, it is quite trivial to scientifically research such things and prove it is nonsense:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouija#Scientific_investigation

In keeping with my previous statement where I said I'd be happy if my experience was disproved, there's clearly a lot of sense in everything said on the page you linked, and it could well be that all I experienced is the ideomotor response. However, it says 'The ouija phenomenon is considered by the scientific community to be..'. Considered is not absolute proof.
