As title.

I have a Nokia N86 8gig jobbie at the mo and it's been reliable and took a battering over the last 24 months. I can now upgrade (I've been able to for a few months but have done nothing about it) but unsure of where to head...

Obviously in the last 2 years, Touchscreen phones are now the norm.

I'm with Orange and per month I pay £31ish for 600 mins xnet, about 1000000 orange magic numbers (been with them a long time! lol), unlimited texts, 500mb mobile internet and my broadband at home is in with the price too.

I assume this is still a reasonable deal providing I can get a good phone for free over the term. The N86 at the time was quite expensive/new and N97's were easier to get a better deal on despite being a more advanced phone.

Anyway, the only thing I'm bothered about in a big way is SIZE! I had a play on a friends Samsung Galaxy S2....and great phone but HUGE. Definitely don't want one that big.

Had a quick go on an Iphone 4S which seemed nice but I hate itunes, I aren't sure if I'd need this installed to do anything to the phone??

The feel of the new Nokia Lumia or whatever it is, is fine too...

But not sure where to head?! I want wifi support obviously, easy net browsing, something which does flash videos/supports flash would be cool... Something which holds a lot of texts, looks nice, works quickly, a reasonable camera but moreso good quality videos... and thats about it.

I am not someone who would spend an age downloading apps or customising my phone much, not one for going mad downloading themes and all that, if that helps to advise me.

I don't mind chucking about £50 in the pot for a phone and to keep my contract as it is.

Any recommendations/suggestions of what would likely suit me best?

Also who's good to get insurance from? I've never needed it but if I go touchscreen it may be worthwhile...

I honestly think the galaxy S2 is your best bet despite its size , I'm sure in no time you will get used to it.

If the Galaxy S II is too big, get the iPhone 4S. You'll have to find some money upfront for it though most likely (maybe not if 16GB is enough).

You do need to use iTunes for quite a few things, but there is other software that can get around it and to be fair it isn't really an issue - it's actually quite good.

No flash though. Maybe look at the HTC Incredible S as a cheaper option? That will do everything you want.

Have you thought about a Windows Phone 7.5 handset like a Nokia Lumia 800 for example.

Other than that, id say another vote for the iP4S 16GB / 32GB

Cheers guys, the SII is definitely too big, it's horrible just how big it feels compared to the iphone 4S, the Nokia Lumia 800 does feel ok in the hand but don't know a lot about it, is it comparable to the iphone 4S and Galaxy SII in performance and featureset?

I'll take a look at the HTC mentioned, is that the best one out at the mo which isn't a huge beast? :D

Define 'huge beast' really. It's a 4" screen, with the Desire S below it and that has a 3.7" screen. Neither are particularly great phones (but perfectly fine overall), the best ones all have big screens.

The Lumia 800 is comparable as a top end phone but the camera isn't as good as the 4S/S2, nor are the internals but they don't really matter on WP7.

He ain't going to get a iPhone4S on a £31 mobile+internet contract for £50 so thats out regardless of his hate for itunes. The Incredible does'nt seem to be available on the Orange site either. So i would suggest 2 phones Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray or Nokia Lumia 800.

I have a Nokia N86 which even when opened fully, in comparison, the SII feels huge in my hand! I don't like that :)

You may well be right on the iphone situation, I will have a look into these Lumia things, a few people have said they're worth a shout and Windows Phone will "take off" soon lol.

Download Zune, it's Microsofts version of iTunes and see if you can get on with it, because you have to use it to do somethings with the phone.

With iOS 4 and above you could get away with never using iTunes . Don't see the fuss really. Takes as many steps to transfer stuff to my iphone as it does to my galaxy s2. Was only ever a problem years ago when windows iTunes was godawful

Funny enough Apple basically made iTunes optional because ~30% of handsets never connected to iTunes in 2010 which prompted a few changes to iOS4. That said I still think it's a horrible piece of software but I'll give it credit for being usable by your mum despite being a bit... bloated today. Zune is worth checking out, it's a bit lighter in features but as has been said - is basically required to use it. The Nokia isn't a bad handset and you'd probably get it on a good price considering your current deal but check it out instore first - WP7 is one you need to experience first hand to check you're OK with it.

I need to have a go of one as you say :)

Do the Lumia 800's definitely support Flash now, I've seen some quick youtube vids saying they don't? But were from a few months ago.

I haven't had any time to check deals yet but this is the list of recommended phones I've got, I would rather cast off any which aren't as good as the Lumia 800 as I am warming to that and I think I'll be able to blag one for free on my contract.

moto razor
iphone 4s
galaxy s2
Lumia 800
sony ericson arc
Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray
HTC sensation xe with beats
HTC Incredible S

I've not looked at all of the above yet, but I don't want a phone any bigger than the iphone 4s or the Lumia 800. Thanks guys :)

I've just started scanning the manufacuters sites for dimensions and you aint wrong! lol.

Shame.

So, would you guys give the Lumia 800 a vote of confidence? :)

dont want bigger than iphone4 yet have s2/sensation xe/inredible s, arc, razor, ray.. in there? tbh you might think s2 is HUGE - i did.. i was used to 3.5" screen - iphone 4.. but after having my s2 for 2 days i can't feel the size at all.. and im happy that i took it instead of other smaller phones :)

As I say a load of people just give me names of phones which I've not looked at yet, but I should have before posting as they're all too big for me.

Just personal preference I feel, I don't want anything huge :)

Thats poo, do the Android phones and iphone then? It's odd as some reviews say the latest OS update, Mango 7.5 or something, now supports it. Confusing!
