Samsung has history of using older lower density platters in smaller capacity models than top model so performance is lower.
WD6400AAKS (Caviar Blue/SE16) uses same high density platters as 1TB Caviar Black but as slightly short stroked. WD6401AALS is newer Black-serie version of it with 32MB cache.


Difference between normal Express Gate and Express Gate SSD is that former has to be installed to HDD while later comes in own flash memory/solid state drive.
 
Why not change to the Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail graphics card? Double the RAM at the same speed but £9 cheaper!

The sapphire is significantly higher clocked than the powercolour which will be more benefitial in terms of graphics. Additional GDDR's only benefit is it allows for higher resolutions - so unless gaming at least at 1920x1200 go back to the higher clocked sapphire card.

Also I'd personally from experience recommend the Corsair HX PSUS over the Enermax ones.

If you route the cable round the back you will need to extend the power cable for the motherboard. If you just come straight up through the partition then you won't.

Not modular though. The Corsair 520W will power that rig nicely, its very quiet and modular too :) I have the HX520 and I didnt need any extension cables in my P182!

P45 chipset has enough lanes for one full speed PCIe 2.0 x16 slot so these dual physical x16 slot boards limit primary slot to eight lanes if there's anything in second slot. (which gets those cut away 8 lanes)
PCIe 2.0 doubles bandwidth so at least yet PCIe 2.0 x8 operation isn't limiting graphic cards but that might change with next major GPU launches.
So P5Q-E and P5Q Deluxe are probably the most interesting choises because third physical "universal" x16 slot can operate at x4 (non-2.0) speed without limiting primary graphic card slot in any way... but card in any PCIe x1 slots limits it to single lane. (bandwidth of one lane is 250MBps in PCIe "1.0")
I have 3ware 9650SE-8LPML PCIe x4 RAID controller so I've had to check that thoroughly and I'll be getting P5Q Deluxe because of Express Gate SSD. (ability to browse web in few seconds could be handy in case of need to check FMI's weather radar data quickly when thunderstorm is getting uncomfortable close for using PC)

If you want "drop parts in" case without need for silencing then Antec P180-serie would be very good. If you want about full metal contstruction (only plastic in wires) case Lian Lis has some door equipped silencing friendly cases but those need adding of damping mat.

For PSU Enermax Modu/Pro 82+ is very good serie of quiet PSUs, like nearly anything made by Seasonic. 500W is more than enough for any single graphic card PC.

Noctua NH-U12P and Thermalright HR-01 Plus are about best CPU coolers for use with quiet low speed fans.

Did you get the P5Q board? Does your 3Ware 9650SE 8LPML really work with it?
I need to build a database machine for development and I already have the same RAID card. Now I need to carefully choose a motherboard for that. I also need to program CUDA, so both PCIe 2.0 slots would be also occupied, one with an NVidia 9600GT (single-slot cooler, for CUDA), the other one with an ATI card for X-Window. Do you know whether this configuration would work fully? My other option is a Supermicro board for AM2 Opteron, which is about 50-60% more costly than the P5Q-E plus a Core2 Quad Q8200. Thanks in advance.
 
OK Have just bolted it all together and am creating the RAID 0 set.

So far so good, everything fits and chip at 31°C idle (MB is 28°C idle).

Am very happy and a big thank you to everyone who chipped in with advice.
 
If you sped near 1k, go i7.

Seriously, the processors are the same price and they are better, and have hyper threading too. Not to mention the single die argument and the integrated memory controller.
