I've not kept up with whats out but I have an AMD Ryzen 9 5900x on an X570 platform and wondering if there is any use in upgrading or just wait a few years?

Definitely is worth it I’d say, but it means a new AM5 platform. A lot of faffing, plus a fair chunk of cash.

What do you use the PC for?

If gaming, what kind of games & resolution/refresh?

For casual gaming and a decent chunk of productivity, the 5900X is still a great CPU, so it depends on your answers to the above ^^.

You can buy a board now like an X670e whilst prices are reducing to offset the cost, get the best you can afford, and make sure it has bios flashback on it, I wouldnt bother with X870, its not bringing anything new to the table at all over X670E, its even using the same ASMedia southbridge as X670E.

But I wouldnt bother buying Ryzen 7000 now, 9000 is just around the corner, Ryzen 8000 is already out, dont forget you will need new RAM too.

Shocked you say that from a CPU no that old. I went from an intel 6700k to a 7800x3d and that was a worthwhile upgrade at 4.5x faster. 5900x is that even twice as fast upgrade for him?

A system built around chips like the 7950X, 7900X3D 7950X3D are real processing powerhouses. To me the performance uplift is very much worth it.

The AMD 8000 series is due out later this year if I recall correctly.
I'd hold on for that, since your current rig is still very good.

The 8000 series is going to be APU only and CPU's from this series are already out. The CPU cores themselves are just rehases of what we already have.

The next dedicated 'desktop' CPU, to compare to the '5000/7000' lines of CPU's will likely be the '9000' series now

Dear oh dear! Didn't they also say they'd not be bothering with high end GPU's next time as well. WTF are they doing!

Are these regularly hammering your CPU, or not really?

Gaming at 1440p 120hz
How are you doing with hitting the 120 Hz?

With that usage, the 7800X3D could help you push up the minimums for 1440p, but the downside is that the 7800X3D is actually slower in full multithreaded load than the 5900X.

Im confused, so is there still going to be proper gpu's next gen or was that rumour true they were getting out of that high end tier market?

I’m honestly not sure as I kinda lost interest in the Uber end of the GPU market for gaming when prices become loltastic. The closest I’ve come to spending mega money on a GPU recently was on a RT 7900XTX Nitro after seeing a friends one in action with a 57” 7680 x 2160 monitor, but it’s £1150 for maybe 20 hrs of use per month, I lose all my PCI-E slots and have ton more heat to deal with.

I’d personally appreciate another 5700XT type card. 2 slot blower, keep my PCI-E slots, fit almost any case with minimal fuss and reasonable heat levels for a reasonable price.

honestly not really the video rendering is probably the most intensive but I can do 4k rendering without any issues, a little more speed on the renders would be nice but ultimately just a nice to have and not a need.

Gaming is as far as I can tell pretty solid, hitting close to 120fps on most titles I play though some newer games have been hovering around the 90s I don't know how much of that is down to newer titles less optimized and drivers not being mature though
